Title: Rats!!
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 28 March 2013, 00:51:17
Some tenants of mine have a rat problem!!  :(

They've tried poison and traps but they keep coming back.  The local council pest man has been and we've filled every hole that we can find, but the little buggers are still getting in the wall cavities and the void under the flat roof (kitchen/bathroom extension).  >:(

Nearby there's a guy that keeps poultry and apparently the woman next door always has bags of rubbish out side her backdoor.  Neither of which helps!  :-\

Has anyone used a ultra sonic pest repellent, something like this?

Are they any good?  ???  TIA!  :)

I tried something similar to that but didn't seem to work :(

must have had deaf rats or something ;D

did try poison but they are clever and seamed not to eat it. in the end I used bloody big rat traps the kind that takes no prisoners. caught a few on them, easiest way is to cut the food supply I guess but easier said than done, hope this helps and good luck :y

ps or get a jack Russell my uncles one was the best a trapping rats

This is the strange thing, they do have a mongrel little terrier type thing that they keep in the back yard.  You would think that the rats would steer well clear....  :-\

My tenant has traps all over the place.......  ::)

Save your money, ultra sonic repellers are a waste of time  ;)

Rat poison you can buy at the local diy/hardware is rubbish, its too weak, all it will do is give them a good meal......might kill mice, but rats no.....unless its already ill or weak.

Do a search on google for Storm Secure, its just about the strongest you can buy (however its only for professional use and if you can find a website willing to sell you it, you may have tell a porkie  ;) )

If you do manage to get some, be warned, its strong stuff, any animal that eats it will die so only ever put it in rat baiters. Do NOT leave it exposed  :y

A couple of years ago I found a huge dead rat in one of our outbuildings.

It really was a whopper, so I measured it.......11 inch body with a 9 inch tail if memory serves.

Agreed, We tried something called Ratak. The mouse came for it day after day. It didn't kill or even slow him down, and his coat took on a healthy glossy sheen. :-\

Total waste of time and money. :-\
