I do like my bikes. What Gixer you got Chris? I've had a K4 600, K3 750 and an old SRAD 750 which was a dedicated track bike. Now a Trumpy rider.

No longer own a Gsxr, since sold the 1000k1 for an 04 blade. Those and a cbr600 where track only bikes. Had an srad750 briefly that I should have learned from. I don't like quick steering bikes!  so my experience with the K1 was ... Difficult. Not helped by lack of a slipper clutch which i later fitted, and a shite gear box, with a quick shifter that refused to play. Never quite got on with it.

Where as the Fireblade i was instantly at home on. Still needs the rear shock sorting, useless white power has 5 working rebound settings out of 25, even after a refurb. They are like that from new. :( apart from that its well sorted. :)

Having said all that, I've not ridden it for... Ages. Ort to sell it really.

Should be an exciting season.New boy Marquez is blindingly fast but also a mentalist at times.Lorenzo is pure class,Rossi has a point to prove, and Pedrosa must win a title this year if hes ever going to do it. Hes had enough chances and the excuses are wearing thin.
I suspect Honda will have a machine advantage again, but we will see.

Well done to crutchlow , if he can stay upright he will do well  :)

Personally I dont think he will ever reach the very top level. He tends to talk a better race than he actually rides. He needs to learn to stay on the thing for a start.

Well it seems the races will be between yamaha and honda at the minute , lets hope for a shake up and some new faces hitting the front . Although being a rossi fan im hoping he will win every one just to see the look on lorenzo's face  ;D

<blows checks out> :o

Lordy, he can't get round at that speed into turn 1. He can't. They haven't been. Mostly running on. Naaaah he can't, possibly...can he? He is you know, bloody hell he's only got round, and looked like he meant it. Gaww that was impressive.

Except they are all doing it. Turn 1 camera man was crap early in the session, all wobbly and out of focus. They either changed or he's got his eye in. Impressive stuff. From riders and tv crew.

....or is it just that I haven't seen bikes at all for a while? :-\

Wow, fair play to Crutchlow, a solid and consistent performance giving second on the grid.

1 Lorenzo
2 Crutchlow
3 Pedrosa.  ...who nearly got run over mid corner by Marquez. :o

Did someone say Rossi was over the hill ?  :D Great to see him back up the front where he belongs. :)
If he hadnt got over excited and tried to win the race on the first lap,it would have been a straight fight between him and Lorenzo, which would have been great to see.Im sure we will see it in the near future though.
Theres certainly life in the old dog yet. :y
More importantly, his own doubts about what he had left in the tank will have been mostly answered so his confidence will be on the rise. And confidence is what its all about really.

Title: Re: Motogp Qatar
Post by: albitz on 07 April 2013, 21:01:29
Yep.As I said earlier,If Rossi hadnt made the mistake on the first lap he would have been on Lorenzos tail by lap two and then we would have seen the battle of the titans. It will come though.Lorenzo is without doubt the yardstick. He has been the best rider by far while Rossi wasted two years on the red bucking bronco. :y
The only remaining question imo (and a big one) is Rossi as good as Lorenzo ? He was better than him three years ago,but he is no spring chicken and Lorenzo has grown into a superb rider. It will be interesting to find out over the course of the season.
Young Marquez was great to watch too.A bit Stoner like, without being an arrogant little prick.Should provide a lot of great entertainment this year.

Ive no doubt that rossi is a better rider than lorenzo , lorenzo has had the bike to do the job which makes him look invincible ... he's good but now rossi has the machinery im sure we will see him with a few wins . Rossi reeled them in from way back  :) Well done crutchlow and smith will no doubt learn a lot from that first outing  :y

Interesting to see how happy and fired up rossi was post race. He clearly still has the fire in the belly. If he is close to the front near the end, I would always bet on him to get the win. For me, he is the greatest of all time. Lorenzo should be worried! As for pedrosa, he will never win a GP champioship... Hasnt got the killer instinct at this level.

Rossi was brilliant and will only get better but I think Marquez will be the one to watch, oh and it looks like Pedrosa is still the Honda No2  ;D

Considering crutchlow was on a non factory bike he has done well and he will do well , but now rossi is back in the fold all of them will be wondering how the hell did he come to nearly falling off to coming second  ;D Look out lorrenzo your time is over  :P
How come those honda's dont go round corners very well  ::) ;D
Title: Re: Motogp Qatar
Post by: feeutfo on 08 April 2013, 15:31:46
Finally, a word on Crutchlow. :y
Rider of meeting IMO. Although it is slightly concerning how he ran off as Rosdi passed him. If your already the hardest late braker into turn one, these not much to be gained trying to brake harder and later still trying to keep Rossi at bay.

Still, at least it didn't cost him a position. Iirc?

Smith binned it. ::)

Unlike some who ride bikes here at OOF. ::) ::) ;)

Im full of admiration for Rossi, have been since his 125 days, but I think its a bit early to say Lorenzos time is over tbh. Rossi proved yesterday he hasnt lost it but Lorenzo is imo a class above the others,so that question remains unanswered for the moment.
I think it will be a fascinating battle when it happens.
Crutchlow unfortunately did what Crutchlow does - undeniably quick, but very little racecraft or intelligence.Which is why Imo he doesnt have all the attributes needed to e really top class rider at that level. He may win a race occassionally if hes lucky but I cant see him ever being a serious consistent title contender, even on a full works bike.I hope Im wrong though.
Bradley Smith must have a good manager and a lot of good contacts because I cant see any justification for him to be on a MotoGP bike at all, never mind one of the best bikes on the grid.
Imo, Scott Redding would have deserved it much more than Bradley tbh.

Rossi is in the unique position of having raced and won on all the top category of bikes from 500cc two strokes to the present four stroke bikes dripping with electronic gizmos. He still says that the 500,s were the ultimate machine and much more tricky to ride at the limit than any of the 4 stroke formulas which have  been in place since.
Its all down to marketing though. No 2 stroke road bikes to speak of now,so manufacturers lost interest in spending millions on developing them for the track.

It's hard to believe now, but when I was teenager only Honda made 4 strokes. Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki only made  smokey strokers.

The first 4 stroke Suzuki was the GS750 of 1976......and I wanted one. :y
