Title: Amazon, Yodel and Mrs Opti's Bread Maker
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 04 April 2013, 14:20:21
Poor old Mrs Opti, she's paid her dough but she still hasn't received her bread maker.  Amazon use a company called Yodel ( who have been less than helpful)

More than two weeks after placing the order, their excuses for the non-delivery have ranged from the hilarious to the f***ing annoying. The latest one being that the bread maker is too heavy for  a "one man/woman delivery"

It weighs in at 4.5 kg.

I despair........and it seems I'm not the only one. Check out the almost 3,000 customer reviews below.......1.2/5 stars

Yodel are really, really bad. Often had notes from them when we've not ordered anything  ???

Yoday have been leaving notes at my mums house now for 3 weeks saying they have a parcel for M. McElduff. Problem is there 3 M. McElduff's who get mail there and none of us are expecting parcels?!

Amazes me how these companies make money. Do they get extra for having to make extra visits or is it a fixed price deal?? If they were getting paid per visit then they could say they attempted to deliver multiple times and get paid for it then simply deliver once. I assume its a fixed rate so how do they profit from making repeated attempts, If it was me I'd make sure the person was at home before attempting delivery that way I'm not out the extra fuel/time for additional attempts, not really rocket science is it?!?!

If I inquire about an item either by email or phone I always ask who the courier service used is, if the answer is Yodel I politely inform the company that I am no longer interested in doing business with them. On 3 out of the 4 last occasions the company have then offered an alternative courier at no extra cost. If everyone did this perhaps we could drive that awful company out of business ??

You have 150+ parcels on your van, do you spend all day trying to contact the recipients or go out and try to deliver to those who are in? Oh and no they only get paid once per parcel not per delivery attempt.
As an aside if you know you aren't going to be in why not ask a neighbour to take the parcel in for you. You can then get a delivery advice put on the parcel to tell the driver to leave with your neighbour, Help them to help you kinda thing.

My neighbour always puts his address as number 8 (7) seems to work because I get his parcels :y :y

back to amazon then, it's their responsibility to get the delivery to you.

personally, i'd look for a second hand panasonic breadmaker on ebay - they are pretty robust and you should get one for about £30

My mum and dad just bought another breadmaker from John Lewis.....they told me what make they wanted to try and i did an interwebby search. I could find it only £5 cheaper online so i suggested they buy from John Lewis, thinking they would goto our local John Lewis store. But no, my mum phoned them up, paid over the phone and it was delivered foc on the following Sat morning. Unfortunately they were out when the driver called, however, presumably, as the driver got no answer at the front door, he tried the gate to the back garden, found that unlocked  and then found the side door to the garage unlocked too.....so he left the breadmaker in the garage, then put a card through the front door telling them where he'd left it.......imo you carnt beat service like that these days  :y

Mrs Bear uses the bread maker for pizza dough. The simplest of recipes in the handbook and it tastes just like Dominos dough! Superb  :y

I'm afraid it's the price you pay for living in a rural idyll, Opti. We city dwellers get a first class service.

That is an understatement, Pete......but when you buy from Amazon do you have any choice who delivers your goods?.

No. I complained about a delivery that went astray and asked them to use a different courier, they refunded me and said that they would get in touch with the company, but they would continue to use them.
My stuff had been 'delivered' next door, hidden under a bench in the garden. So I got my stuff and a refund.

As you're an honest man I presume you sent the refund money back. ::) ::) :)

We had one....smell when cooking was...'oooer gorgeous'....the result was an inedible brick. Second attempt was much better.
It then converted into a kitchen ornament, and to this day, sits there totally ignored :(

They are great for making pizza dough, though. Pull it out before it attempts to cook it, roll out, top to taste and in the oven. :-*

Back to couriers, I actually did a little dance when Amtrak went up the Gary Glitter. 100% failure rate receiving 8 parcels over a 2 or 3 year period.

We used to share a radio frequency with them when I worked in Ilford. Some of the conversations between drivers and controllers were hilarious.

The brick maker.......I mean the bread maker has still not been delivered, so I've contacted Amazon and asked them to refund £49.99 to my card.

Let's see how promptly that is done. :(
