...do I need any other stat associated stuff - rubber gasket maybe bolts - anything what you'd recommend?
TIA

worth getting the coolant transfer pipe too, can be quite easy to split/crack it. Should come with o-rings required :)
-
If you buy a genuine thermostat it will come with the new o-ring and aluminium housing.
Unfortunately the genuine thermostat now has a thinner flange than original so the old bolts will be too long for the new thermostat. (3 options: buy new bolts, fit spacers under the old bolts or cut the old bolts to length.)
Alternatively it has been claimed on OOF that the wax capsule from a 4 cylinder engine will fit straight in to your old housing (at half the cost) which avoids the bolt problem but means you need a new o-ring for the housing.
PS I haven't tried fitting a 4 cylinder wax capsule to a V6 so I cannot confirm that it works :-\

In total, you need:
Stat in housing
O ring between stat and block (comes with GM stat in UK)
2 orings for stat to transfer pipe
Recommended to have a spare transfer pipe available (if new, I think GM transfer pipes come with the 2 o rings above)
Antifreeze

. . . And a lot of patience :-)

The project slided a bit off as I have to work till next wednesday.
Thx though!

Expect you may already have 1 in the tool kit but well worth having a magnetic telescopic bolt retriever.
You will understand why after you have dropped that B*****Bolt several times and tried findind it wedged behind various pipes/tubes and bits of engine moulding .Also a very bright torch
Good luck. :y

The transfer pipe made me nervous...is it's number 90411629 isn't it and also fit to my car?
-
24420652..thermostat with housing and sealing ring
90411629..transfer pipe ..which should come with both "0" rings
:y

Sorry ...incorrect part number for thermostat supplied :-[
Should be.....90502201...eyes not as good as they used to be and was reading it from old receipt/upside down :o

Upgrade :
removed the usual stuffs and found this :

one of the two bolts of coolant bridge seriously injuried it is left one on the photo above. You can see there that some previous owner tried to repair it using red gue with not too much joy...
so I didn't have to swap stat at the end... :y Almost forgot the symptoms were constant coolant loss, silent hissing and fast / irreal temp gauge moving as the steam influenced the resistance of gauge temp sensor.

I've sheared a couple of them know, so defo use torque wrench on refit. Needs new dowty washers as well.
I'd renew both banjo bolts, and all 4 dowty washers, and clean up the coolant bridge.

You were fortunate that it came out in one piece :y .... it might not have been easy to remove the lower section had it sheared completely when you tried to remove it.

Its surprisingly easy TBH, as plenty is proud

Could you give me the accurate torque value of the questoined bolts, please ?
I didn't find it in the Guide section.
