Title: BBC iPlayer
Post by: BigCat on 12 May 2008, 22:41:02
Does anyone here use BBC iPlayer?

Mine seems to be crashing my PC - it started happening yesterday - and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

It's software that allows you to download and watch bbc programmes that have been broadcast in the last week or so..

"Making the Unmissable Unmissable" according to the marketing hype.

It's a computer program for downloading BBC Televsion programs over the internet.

Ever since yesterday, mine seems to have gone beserk and is now slowing down my PC to the point where I can't do anything else on it (I'm typing this on another PC).

Thanks Martin,

After working on it all last night and this morning I finally cracked it.

I tried stopping it in Task Manager, but it just kept coming back to life and running at 99% CPU. (anyone remember Alien?).

I've just worked out that there is a conflict with 4OD, and the program was just going into a loop.

It all started when I tried to add 4OD, it kept failing installation, and eventually I removed it - or so I thought!

Worst of all every time I shut it down, it just kept popping back up >:(

I used Registry Mechanic and a product called Kclean (provided by Sky) to try and remove any last vestiges of it, but it had left some files behind which caused a conflict with iPlayer. I eventually tracked them all down, deleted them and now I've got my PC back.

Not very happy with C4 - and I work for them!

Will have to report all this back to the VOD chaps.
