All that talk about (and action on) giving aid to the rebels in Syria and, today comes the following news:
The leader of the al-Nusra Front, a jihadist group fighting in Syria, has pledged allegiance to the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

I despair. ::) ::) ::) >:( >:( >:(

Sadly we have a good track record of funding rebels only to find out later they are the bad guys.
One man's freedom fighter another mans terrorist.

Come what may, that was the sandwich we chose.

Any fool could foresee it. It's not as if it hasn't happened before. We and the yanks armed Saddam against the Iranians. Africa will be awash soon.

If we had pledged support to a different group what's to say they wouldn't have done exactly the same thing :-\

They probably would have. That's why we need to butt out, unless other 'interested parties' get involved.

Exactly :y :y :y

When this was discussed at the time, the point was well made that doing nothing was not a viable option. Not for our interests, not for the Syrian people and not for the rest of the world.
As the caretakers of the Commonwealth and keepers of the decent world, it is our duty to get involved as and where it is felt necessary.

politics is not about good and the bad.. its how can you profit..

I can easily say that the area is covered by service agents with a high number per meter square.. so info was plenty..
in addition, still I see a habit of looking events as a single point operation.. but its not the case..
its another step of a bigger plan..prepared at a country oceans away..
but this time Russians involved and things get messy.. and my politicans baffled !

It could also be suggested that any Foreign Secretary who didn't at least show his/her face at discussions in such matters might be failing in their duty :-\

Yes but to who, his duty is to the U.K first and foremost :y
-
Quite :y presumably there was a decision made with regard to our involvement and to what degree :-\
Is it naive to think that such decision-making is made withdue consideration to what may or may not happen if any given course is taken :-\

Some times I wonder that little thought is given to the aftermath of any given action. We only have to look at recent conflicts for that... Iraq, Libya, tha Arab Spring and now Afghanistan all in a bloody mess, and I firmly believe that when we pull out of Aghanistan it revert back to exactly how has been for centuries in the stone age and tribal, but with AK47's and RPG's. :(

Agree with that 100%
When will the western world learn that these country's are not compatible with the western demographic ethos ?
Just leave them alone to kill each other off.
Its there way, we should not interfere :(
Unless they have some oil that is :-X :-X

Slightly off topic, but I notice that the BBC always send the delicious Orla Guerin or the erstwhile model Caroline Hawley to report on these conflicts.
Do you think it's to put Arab men off coming to the UK?
