Hi guys,
I am usually against all forms of cleaning my car. I usually take it to the Polish dudes at Homobase once a quarter and have been very pleased with the results at the cost of £9.99.
however, now I've rectified my engine problems (thanks Martin and to all who have taken time to help with my plight :y) I want to get the car spruced up with a view to a.) getting some body work done in the summer (by saving the pennies) and b.) taking the old girl to the Vaux meet at Billing Aquadrome in July.
Now, before I can really ascertain what body work needs doing she really needs a quality clean. I can do this no problem. however to get it to ''show'' standard I have to go the extra mile with EVERYTHING.
I do remember somebody on here posted up a detailing thread with pics in the Gallery but i'm buggered if I can find it ::) but if I get half as good results as he got ill be farking ecstatic!
Can anyone recommend any decent products for cleaning it to an awesome standard? in my car cleaning department ::) in the garage I have pretty much shampoo, sponges, chamis leathers and I think perhaps a bottle of T-Cut :-\
on the inside I was going to break out the vanish on the carpets, hoover and some sort surface cleaner for the dash.
is there anything else that you guys use to give me that extra bit of WOW factor?

Love to get front and rear bumpers done on trusty steed some time, London's car park's have taken their toll :'(
Trouble is a professional garage would be too expensive :-\

I don't have the cash to take it to anywhere to get it done, and subsequently I don't want to spend a shed load on products either.
in that thread, Mark clearly has all the required tools but I was sooo impressed with the end result. it looked newer than new!
plus, I think after a clean the body work may be even worse than first suspected but a quick count sees the following needing doing...
- wheel arch. needs professional attention
- 1/2 cm rust spot on bootlid
- another 1/2 cm rust spot on lower boot lid
- bumper.... yeah needs totally redoing
- small rust patch at bottom of door on the inside
- front bumper... ideally need a new one as the black plastic has warped
all that AFTER the clean .... uphill struggle or what ::)

just reading that thread from markc...... certainly theres a nack to it. that clay stuff..... so it appears he's saying that even after an initial clean there is still a load of crap on the body work :o

sometime saturday afternoon,might be in work in the morning,engine is stripped down and just needs pump removing and cambelt, :y

lol. I figure that if I clean it, note ALL bad spots to get a quote for body work, then do the detailing thing before the vx meet ill only do it once.
is anyone else going to be there at billing? 13/14 july I think? :y
just looked in the car washing department lol have some t-cut shampoo, some vanish deep carpet stain cleaner, upholstery cleaner, a clean paint brush, some dash shine and some mr muscle window cleaner.
anyone know whats the best way to remove the green plant life build up in the area where the boot lid struts live? random thought but would carb cleaner be ok?

trouble is mate-you spend all that time/money and yep car looks great-then you drive it 1/3 miles and back to square 1 :'( so if its a trailer queen-fine but miggys are meant to be used IMHO p.s why rover is semi matt black-no need to polish-just 5mins hose down and job done :y However respect to anyone who can be asked to do all that-some of my mates do concours events
with their astons/studebakers/packard cars

Yep agree with you mate - one of my company cars which I had to hand back when I changed jobs was just under twelve months old, and had never been washed in its life :)

Get some 'Daisy' from the kitchen isle in the supermarket. It's about a £1 and is a general purpose cleaner. Dilute it down in a spray bottle and agitate rough bits with an old paintbrush.
Not expensive, but very effective :y

Maguires Clay Bar and asssociated stuff. Very good but hard work. Chap at the same place I work uses it. The results are awesome. :y

not as much as hard work as some stuff out there,i mainly use maguires clay bar kit,paint cleaner,polish and wax,takes a good day to do it properly :y

Claying a car gives awesome results. I was sceptical until I tried it for myself.
A member here suggested some time ago that blu tack could be used instead of clay. I have tried this too, and whilst much cheaper and quite effective tbh, it does break down quite quickly.

ive clayed both the mv6 and the cabbie,both with good results,cabbie does need doing again tho,when i have a free weekend to spend on it ;D
