Under what circumstances do you need a remote control for your car stereo?
Been looking at upgrading our set up. Mrs V agrees with me, what the hell is the point of a remote when you can press the buttons yourself.?
Are they for passion wagons where you can't reach the controls from your semi recumbent position? :oPicnics, where you can't be bothered to get up and press the buttons? 8)
Has anyone on the forum got one and uses it instead of pressing the buttons themselves?

About 10 odd years ago I purchased at the time a top of the line pioneer complete with a remote control
If I said I used it in the 4 years I had It I would be lying, given when I come round to selling the car it was still in the glovebox having never been out still minus the batteries from the day it was removed from the box
However you can get stereos now that have remote stalks to mount say above the light switch which in the absence of steering wheel controls is probably the next best thing :y

I never understood their existence... but that's not the only useless thing out there ;)

Perhaps you can access more functions with the remote?? :-\
The trafic i had, for a while, had built in sat nav......with a remote control.....used to use remote all the time....it was easier, ie you could still keep both hand on steering wheel (sort of) plus accessing sat nav functions was simpler with remote :y

They do it because it's easy. Just because it isn't really necessary is not relevant.
Just like a lot of electronic kit that has four buttons to control all the features, which requires the memory of an elephant to remember all the functions, rather than a sensible and efficient layout.

I am still using an old tomtom 700 and that came with a remote control, gawd knows why. Bought my son a new stereo for his 18th birthday a year or so back and that came with remote control, it is still in the plastic wrapper in the door pocket :-\

When I had one that's exactly what it was used for. Although the kids could never agree what to put on, got annoying so took out the batteries ::)

I found mine useful. Volume up, volume down, track skip, and mute. About the most buttons you need to engreave into memory where they are, a bit like when your fingers learn the postioning on a QWERTY keyboard... I found i could sort of hold it in one hand in the top half of my hand and have enough hand left for gripping the wheel or gear stick, meaning i could control the stereo without removing not just my hand, but also my eyes, from what they should be doing.
I could adjust the stereo without having to do that split second eye diversion that you tend to do to see where your hand has to go to find the volume button, because they are all there in your fingers.
they have their uses :y

Personally I'll stick with the combination of steering wheel controls and large touch screen :)

Have one for mine, but nice and clear 7" touch screen, so main one doesn't get used much, but need one for the digi box as it lives in the boot ::)

My pioneer has one. Never use it for day to day operation but you do need it to access some of the more advanced features during setup. I believe they are for the brigade that make their cars competition level loud where it is too loud to operate from inside the car.
