Hmmm . . . . . . . not so sure about that bit. I'm on my 3rd Omega and I love 'em to bits, BUT when they start getting a bit old, and they all are now, they can be a real pain.

HOWEVER my opinion could just be influenced by the fact that mine went into the garage this morning, and I'll be getting a big bill  >:(    So far my 2000 2.5 V6 with 85k miles has cost way more in repairs than I paid for it

Steve, I know exactly what you mean. I love my Omega. the new Ford is a nice car and I like the layout but the ride... well in all honesty its completely unacceptable lol

theres a fairly big pot hole near me. I went ove it in the ford. me, my mam and my dad automatically went ''fuuuuuck'' as I swear to God I thought the car had split in two. at 30mph too  :o

After martin helped me fix the omega and I got her driving again I went over the same pot hole to compare.......

a very small dip.... it wouldn't have woke you up if you had been sleeping! cars sooo smooth.

Tbh the pug does the job but i find just getting in and out of it more of a pain that the omega , ill be looking to trade it in or sell private what ever is the best deal . I too had to spend a bit on my last omega but they were all wear and tare items like coil pack plugs ball joints and tyres . Not much really as the car was abused by its last few owners  :( I keep looking on the net for something cheap , and prices seem to be about the same as i paid for mine last time ..roughly about £300-500 .
I dont mind spending a bit on it but cant decide if i should get the mini FL or FL  :-\ Ive heard that the FL auto's give trouble  ::)

So there is in my opinion nothing that beats the omega on value for money  :)

Although there's an Omega still in the family I rarely drive it. My little Rover Coupe is fun to drive and i'm not bored with it yet ::)

Mine went about 6 weeks ago, although we still have Big Blue, 3.2 MV6 Estate.

My / The family's daily drive is now a 2008.5 Zafira Elite, 1.9 150bhp Diesel

Its not as comfy, but not far off, plenty practical enough, and massively more economical, and its remarkably nippy.

Since the swap, Ive saved nearly £500 in fuel!

I sold my 3.2 Elite over 18 months ago as it was getting high on miles and got a very nice Mercedes CLK for the drive into the office, it's a lovely car but I miss my Omega and still look at them on Autotrader or ebay and would be tempted if the right one came up......

In answer to EMD's original question - do I miss my Omega - no I don't, in fact Omegas now have that "old fashioned" and "pedestrian" feel to me now.  That said we still have an Omega Estate in the family, and have to say would be hard pushed to find a replacement with such useable carrying capacity.

Thats one thing i really do miss , the silky smooth gearbox  :( Just stick it in drive and forget about pumping a clutch especially in traffic jams  :)

I've a 5 series BMW now, had 4 Omegas in the  past but can't see me owning another. Great cars but for me it was constantly having to put petrol in the bugger that ended my love affair with vauxhalls finest.  :'(
The BM isn't anywhere near as greedy.

My Omega went and I must be honest I do miss it - the comfort and the power.
I now have a Vectra 2.0 Diesel Estate and at 40 to 50 mpg I have saved a fortune!!

I gave my Omega to my mum. I now drive an Astra auto, dad drives an Astra auto convertible. The remarkable thing is anytime anyone does a long journey it is "can we take the Omega please". Think that says quite a lot, roomy comfortable and very economic on along run, it does 36.5mpg on a run (2.6)

Join the club, mine did too. No way will I get back the money that has been poured into it, but, what the hell, you know you are in a big car and they feel great.  :y
Having said that, I can't afford to use much apart from going to work. . .  :'(
Oh, and another thing, its an Elite, but no parking assist, heated rear seats or auto leveling.  >:(
Whats going on there then??  ???

I think parking assist was an option back then but thought the other two were standard ???

I think as a daily commute car its not viable unless its got lpg , with few short miles i do it wouldnt be a problem so im still going to look  :P I would really like an estate omega this time , i like the look of them more than the saloons and it will be more practical for my needs  :)

Only use mine (3.2) for short journeys now and it is not very cost effective but of course the low miles mean that the weekly sting when refuelling is not too bad and I quite like driving it as opposed to smaller economical stuff.

I drive my MV6 everyday and ***k the petrol consumption. Mrs Opti drives a 53 plate Corsa with only 22,000 miles on the clock, which averages about 40 mpg, and reaches close to 50 mpg on a run. :y

For reference, her RX-8 averaged about 13-15 mpg.....climbing to almost 20 mpg provided she didn't use more than 4,000 r.p.m. :-\ :'(

I've moved on to the 2012 Insignia SRI 2ltr 160 NAV diesel thingy ..... been 2-3 months now and can safely say I wont have another Omega. Having said that both the Omega's I had were good reliable cars till the last one a few months ago . I was sitting in the car showroom about to sign for the new one but looking at the omega out the window and I almost backed out when I saw her abandoned outside  ;D
I prefer everything about the new car now I'm used to it ( wasn't quite so sure in the early days ).
But now I love the fuel economy difference . I was getting mid 20's on petrol but this new car gives mid 44mpg without trying and if driving like a granddad I've even seen 54 mpg. 550 plus miles for my tankful instead of 350 if I was lucky. Also a lot cheaper on road tax .
Drives better , looks better and more modern inside and out and can move quickly if needed .
Just my opinion mind  ::)

Omega is a classic now ..well at least i think so  ::) Its a bit like looking back and saying i wished id kept my old capri or old carlton , knowing what they are worth now you would have kept it but i would sure still need one hefty big garage for them all inc three 2.9 grannies  ;D

I sold my last one July last year and regretted it ever since  :'(

Since selling it I had

vectra 2.2 Sri
Seat Ibiza Cupra running 280 bhp
VW golf 1.8 20 V turbo running 220 bhp
And a Peugeot partner, for some cheap motoring

The V6 bug and rwd bit me hard and none of the above were a spec on the Omega for power or comfort, and I don't think anything gets near it on value for money hence I am looking for number 4 :y

I have a Zafira as the daily drive and family car but the only thing you look forward whilst driving that is getting out the other end  ;)

EMD and Dazzer M I'm with you and have had Omegas for twelve years,I've driven all sorts of cars through my work, most of them brand new or low mileage and on a personal basis I still get a kick out of a driving my Omegas and enjoy the odd drag race from the traffic lights especially with the turbo wheezel drivers who get get a bit of a shock that a big old barge can be so nimble on the green light.I'm committed to keeping my cars and my son already knows that when I shuffle off the perch the house money is going to the cats home and he gets the cars...aint life a bitch sometimes ::) ;D

Personal car for me is a BMW 5 Series, cheap to tax, extremely cheap to run, very comfy, very relaxing and lovely to drive. Omega's are still brilliant cars, and I do miss mine, but I wouldn't have another one for personal use. To sell on, on the other hand, most definitely.

The only thing I miss about the Miggy is the cruise control.  It seems that is was an optional extra on XJRs, I mean for £54k you got to pay extra for cruise right?! :o  ;D

I could retro fit it but it looks like the lpg installation will make that very difficult or even impossible :-\

I've committed to my Omega for the long term by fitting the LPG. I'm bored silly with having to have a diesel to get any MPG with any form of poke. I'm also not cut out for small cars. They drive me mad. So for the mean time I'll stick with it. I don't get bored with and the only thing I'd change it for is a VW Phaeton which I refuse to buy until I can fix it!!!!

My Omega is in the garage right now for another few hundred ££ of repairs.   :(

Decision made. Anything else and it goes,  :'( Regrettable, but the fact is they are now simply getting too old and I need something reliable for everyday and long distance business use, and trips to France.
