On a serious note Paul....Its a shame you missed the first Wycombe meet. Ianu gave a superb demonstration into the use of clay bars. I believe MarkC used a clay bar on his motor, and there are pics in the Gallery. Probably tells you which one he used. :y

When I eventually summoned up the courage and willpower to do mine, I used a Meguiars "kit" as it came with everything, bar, lube, cloths and sealing wax ...hard work and an omega is a large car !! b ut well worth it in the end  :y :y

Agreed, Meguiars is probably the best stuff :y.

Yes, Kevins front wing came up brilliant, Its marvelous what claying does....
But.....as I said on the day, with the time it took, the lawn is now a foot high and the misses has run off with the milkman ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I would love to do mine, but I am afraid my concentration span would not last :(

It is time consuming ... I did mine last year ... it took a whole weekend, by the time you wash/chamois the car; claybar/wash/dry each panel; polish (AutoGlym); then finally, wax it ... it is a lot of work, aching arms/shoulders, and a vow never to do it again !!!... but I plan to redo mine this year as it really does make a massive difference to the appearance.

You can do it faster if you want to comprmoise the results slightly.

The approach of wash, dry, clay bar to remove contaminants, compund/cut, synthetic wax is easily done in a long afternoon

meguires clay bar kit is the best value ive found and the wax that comes with it is also very good, also allow a weekend to do the car properly and the results will be amazing, ive done my mv6 last year and came up a treat, gave the cabby a quick going over with the kit and that also came up really well, also use the meguires 3 step, paint cleaner, polish and then wax for even better results  :y

I've used Meguiars lube and bar and agree it is very good , but only recently bought a bar off Ebay and made up my own lube using water and a little car shampoo.
No difference from the Meguirs kit and a lot cheaper.

Bilt Hamber Autoclay. Ten quid a box that'll do four Omegas, and only needs water as lube so it works out much cheaper. And results are brilliant :y

Interestingly, that's what I tried based on numerous good reviews.
Tried it several times on 3 different cars.
And I can't honestly see or feel any difference between using it and not. I even tried a couple of non-scientific tests of claying half a panel, but still couldn't see a difference.
So I haven't bought any more, and that saves me probably 2 hours when I polish a car.

However, I am now a big fan of synthetic polish; it's even easier to use and longer lasting than the Mer that I'd always used previously

Depends how bad the paint is to begin with - and it does take quite a bit of working compared to the Meguiars kit, IME. I've found it makes a hell of a difference.
