Title: (another) Tyre Thread
Post by: steve6367 on 02 May 2013, 12:15:35
One specific question - does the Omega Estate have to have 'XL" tyres?

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on:

Hankook Ventus Prime 2 K115 225/55 R16 99W XL (£105 each fitted) and what is currently on the front of the car.

or

Avon ZV5  225/55 R16 95W (£97.50 each fitted)

Many thanks

Steve

Assuming these tyre threads aren't banned ::)

If you have an estate, or regularly carry heavy loads, then it's a no brainer :y Regardless of opinion, XL tyres probably better suited to the current state of our roads as the side walls are stronger :y

I certainly do load the thing up, boot full of wood for burner etc

So thats the Avons out then.

If you're looking for suggestions, then try Runway Enduro 916+, 225/55/16 97W XL :y

About £65 fitted, and alot better than either price or generic tyre tests might suggest :y

If you're not, then I'll get back in my box ;D

XL tyres have higher load rating..  first check the tyre load rating and compare to your weight.. if you frequently overload tyres it may be useful..

however, they have tendency to increase tramlining problem on some brands..

they are not good tyres..  if you go for cheaper brands Kumho is a good candidate..

So where can I obtain these - "Runway Enduro 916+, 225/55/16 97W XL" - quick phone around local outlets is not producing a result......

Thanks

should ban all this stuff about tyres-all leads to arguments anyway so pointless-as covered before many times-if people can be bothered to look-I'm off before it kicks off-bye :y

Feel free to lock / delete, if I have started something I shouldn't have - I did try some background reading by wanted to clarify the XL part which I have now done.

Thanks

Try www.blackcircles.com (http://www.blackcircles.com)  :y

Enter the size in the boxes on the left, click 'Show me tyres', then 'Show more tyres'

Scroll down and you'll see them on the left hand of the second row, £68.64 each, fully fitted :y

Several people here either have them fitted or have had positive experience with them on the Omega, so tried and tested in the real world on actual cars :y

Fear not, Cem gets a bit excitable about tyre tests ;D

The Kuhmos offer similar performance, but the Runways cost a third less. Your money, but £120 buys alot of petrol/beer/food*

*delete as applicable

Banter is one thing, poor advice is summat else altogether ::)

ok that much joke is enough..

I personally advice you physically check the tyre .. rub your hands ,feel softness+rubber and examine the thread design +wall softness..

and push the tyre downwards and try to turn it.. and compare with other tyres..   then choose accordingly with your budget..

Just put two Runway Enduro 916+, 225/55/16 97W XL on the rear of our Estate - sourced locally - £68 inc VAT, fitted all in.  Have used these before on both the old Elite and old Elite Estate - no issues whatsoever, recommended as a result of practical experience throughout life of tyres on two different Omegas, now on rear of third :y

Yep, I've had a few sub-£100 a corner tyres and I'd rate the Enduros as good as any other so they are a no-brainer unless you are looking to splash out on a £120+ premium tyre.

Quite right Cem and this can be one of the problems of capitalism, where supply cannot keep up with demand, and so the price will rise.  Now if we had a planned economy, there would be plenty of Runway Enduro's to go round at cheap prices and everyone would be happy!  :)

A political tyre thread!! Now you're talking!!!  ;)  ;D
