Title: Bl@@dy Cat
Post by: Vamps on 14 May 2008, 21:29:27
How is it that, as a mature man, I found myself unable to say..  ‘Just put him out of his misery’ ? :(

Why do the words ‘put him down’ change into ‘just do what you have to do’ between leaving my mouth and reaching the vets ears.
Twice now in the last 2 years I have been awoken from my sleep, by my daughter, on a SUNDAY morning to be told the cat needs to go to the vets. >:(

Being a man, of course I do not react to such suggestion, but had not even managed a cup of tea before swmbo and daughter had managed to speak volumes without saying a word.  I found myself agreeing that the cat needs to be seen and head for the phone, Sunday, emergency call out!!!!!! And I still had to take him to the surgery. ::)
Paid the bill today, £167.47, better than the £324.00 I paid 2 years ago.
The dog we have insured, the cat, a moggy from a rescue centre, I didn’t bother with.
Well it was that or leave home...................

I have just had to have one of my cats put to sleep, it is very hard and amazed me as to how attached I have become to them.
We have had the cats for fifteen and half years, longer than we have had kids !
And yes I do consider them part of my family, and for those of you advocating getting rid of them, shame on you.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to visit me, on a weekly basis, and clean up the mess these vermin leave ??

Dog owners are expected to control their animals, and "pickup" any mess made - and the majority of owners do - so why are cats allowed to roam free, mess where they wish, dig up borders, attack other wildlife, etc etc ... Also, a "stray" dog will be "roundedup" and the owners charged for this, cats are allowed to run feral ??

Neuter the lot of them and the problem will solve itself  :)

and Yup .. I'm not a cat lover .....   :)

I offer a free washing service for the cats in my area thanks to a super soaker (just aim at the fence directly behind them, they always run through the stream) and if they are stupid enough to come near me I find that 5 seconds in the water butt keeps them away for a few months  :y

Do you consider foxes, badgers, deer, rabbits etc. to be vermin ?
In my road of 34 houses only 3 have cats, myself included, and one of those houses took it in as a stray.
There are so many ways to keep cats out of your garden these days, that an attitude like this is unnecessary.

An animal loving country eh.

P.S I find my garden has more fox poo than anything else.

Yes.....foxes are vermin....hence why we have hunts  :y

Generally though (foxes are something of an exception) the population of the rest of these animals is related to food availabilty (hence why foxes are an exception as they have adapted very well to city life and obtaining scraps from bins) and prey levels.

I love animals but, wont tolerate the excessive quantities of cat poo I get in the garden which my young children are exposed to. At least I keep the air rifle locked away.

Hence, simple measures which help keep them at bay, nothing to harm them more a case of make them think twice before squatting!

I can see we are not going to agree on this subject, so maybe we should say no more on it.
On a slightly different subject, I see you are in Nottingham. The last time I was near there was at a training centre in Widmerpool, do you no it by any chance ? it was owned by the AA but I am led to believe it is under different ownership now.

>Do you consider foxes, badgers, deer, rabbits etc. to be vermin ?

No,No, yes, yes based on damage to our garden.  I'd happily shoot anything that is being destructive.

and I love our cat, except when it poos in my tomatoes..
