Title: Torque wrench question

I have this torque wrench http://www.toolstop.co.uk/sealey-stw1012-torque-wrench-micrometer-style-3-8sq-drive-2-24nm-1.47-17.70lb.ft-p15807


Today I was tightening M8 nuts to 20nm and the first tightened ok. The rest wouldn't click when set torque was reached so were overtightened. But when I tightened them to 15nm or less, it worked fine. Any reason why this would be?

Sounds like a "dodgy" torque wrench mate ;)

very odd, try to set @ a lower figure to start with & work up to the full figure.

It does work on the lower range but not always on the higher end. What you suggested works but after about 5 or 6 bolts it stops 'clicking' when desired setting is reached, resulting in a bolt today. 

Too bad it just run out of warranty

I had problems with a torque wrench of mine, it wouldn't 'snap' until way more than it was set at. I slackened it off, removed the head - the bolt on the body of the handle just below the head - put a dab of grease on the 'snapping' mechanism & reassembled. So far so good - not had it calibrated but seems to be OK
