Title: New MOT Rules regarding HIDs as confirmed by VOSA
Post by: animal65 on 08 May 2013, 08:46:42
As you are probably all aware from my post regarding headlamp washer jets and the fact you cant seem to buy these anywhere. Well I have some good news if your vehicles come factory fitted with self leveling headlamps and has broken or missing washer jets VOSA have confirmed if you remove the headlamp washer system the mot stations are unable to check these and therefore can not be failed. So my advice to you all i you have issues with the washer jets on your headlights remove them before MOT. I thought i would share this with you all.

I wonder if pipes with missing parts will still mean a fail though?

They are not allowed to remove parts of your car to check things ad in order to check pipes depending where the jets are located they would have to remove bumper or grille  so my advice to you is pop a gromit in the holes. All VOSA said is if the jets are not there altogether they cant be checked

If pipes are disconnected and no water pumping out and the jets have been removed its not a fail

Whats wrong with fixing the faulty parts  :-\

I've never had trouble getting the parts for PFL, and I'm sure FL are even more common.

I has to be better to fix the fault - the systems are fitted to HID headlights to prevent other road users being dazzled, which has to be  a good thing.

Have to disagree, on the 3.2 if driven for a while. I can see a noticable improvement at night when washed, makes a big difference IMHO  :y

I have to agree with sassanach with regards to washer system. if you jet was a dirty car and then let it dry the car will still be dirty, you need to activly disturb the grime to remove it and generaly on the headlights it will be a wiper then spray with screen wash.

Me as well Gary & Sass , always thought the Omega headlamp washer  system to be a bit of a novelty rather than effective  ::) ::)

I find they make a difference, as much of that November time grim doesn't get engrain before you wash it.

Trouble is, it soon empties the bottle (for those who leave them fully functional before Andy B pipes up ;D)

They love the ol' bag. I reckon her wash relay is wired into the ignition.
