I have just bought some of these spring compressors and in the box came some hooks, brackets and wing nuts. Can anyone tell me what these extra bits are for?

Its obvious, there MFI spring compressors and thats the standard fixings pack which ships with all thier products....

Gee thanks guys!!!
OOF strikes again. :P

When you've finished using them ... how are you going to store them ???
Thrown in the bottom of a tool box or HUNG ON A WALL ???
hint .. not too subtle hint
Just my opinion .. thats all :)
-
Sadly it can't be as simple as that. The hooks are threaded all the way up and the wing nuts fit on the end of the hooks. Definately not designed to be fitted to the wall. :-[
I showed our works engineer, who knows a bit about such things, and he drew a blank.

They are not for tying the two clamps together are they to try and stop them pinging off?
-
On a serious note, do the cast spring clamp sections have any vertical drillings in them?
If so you might find that the large hooks pass through the holes with the wing nuts on the end so when the compressors are fitted the wing nuts can be tightened which clamps the spring coils into the castings for safety

You have learned well young Loon. That seems a very plausible explanation. I shall have a look tomorrow during the wishbone transplant. :y
Mark, the castings don't have any holes drilled but I can see Loony's point. I'll try it out. :y
-
I understant the thinking, but they look too short to hold compression or to keep them in place. :)
Are they not just for holding them in place in the toolbox / on a wall :question
-
On reflection, I can see Entwood and MikeF's logic. Perhaps it is as simple as just a means of tying them together when
left lying on the garage floor stored tidily for then next time you need them.
Thanks for the ideas guys. :y

Both plausible explanations... I'd still be looking for a way to use them when the compressors are actually working as I've never known something like that come with a "storage solution" :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
I've had spring compressors slip on the springs and that's bloody frightening!! :-[ :-[

I bought these Teng spring compressors.

Not particularly cheap but you get 3 & each has a bolted up 'clip'/hook.

Initially I could see the logic in that argument. However, in a MacPherson strut set up, the damper would get in the way so there wouldn't be a way of 'tying' the compressors together. :-/

They are there for you to ask the question..
What are these for... :y
HTH... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Well ive studied the 'spare' bits in the photo........and to me they are obviously that.......so just chuck em away as 'not needed' :y ;D
-
Obvious, theyre for restraining Spongeys ferrets.

Its the people in the post and pack dept idea of a joke, Its a case of "watch this lads I'll chuck these hooks in the box and have um scratching there heads for hours trying to work out what to do with them" [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
