Got a genuine 2001 and 2010-2011 disc and its just ejects the disc say after 20-30 seconds. There's like a clicking sound and it doesn't sound like it's spinning constantly the disc just in short bursts.. Any ideas? Would a CD cleaning disc sort it or is it a bigger job :-\
Thanks :)

Nope, Laser is flucked :y
Specialist job for repair sadly, if you can find anyone who will touch them

Probably easier to get another NCDC2013 unit, Would another NCDC2013 be a straight swap or will there be problems with codes... :-\

Coded to the display.

99% chance another NCDC unit will also have a buggered laser, no point ;)

Sounds like the laser is on its way out, if you want to prove its the laser and not the disk, wack a CD in there and see if it will play music (need to switch multi to single mode using the CD button).

Hi thanks for that didn't think it played CDs just Nav disc.. And yes it works.. So could be nav disc . Will upload pic of it later..

It's working now :-[ :-* can it only direct to towns as I can't find how to put a post code in it along with house name number street etc,. :)

These systems are not postcode compatible mate. You can only put in the town, the street, and the house number or junction. Once you suss that bit out though, they are very accurate. :y

Ah thanks for that bud :y, The woman has a strong voice on the Nav :-* ;D
-
So if not using the Sat-Nav is it best to get the disc out or is it okay to leave it in there ?
-
I always leave mine in. Never had a problem
-
Laser *IS* on its way out. These units cannot handle CDRs without damaging them.
The Satnav is extremely accurate, but lacks features. No postcode entry (which is pretty pointless IMHO), but does do house numbers if the digital maps have house numbers. My road doesn't have house numbers on teleatlas or navteq maps (these 2 digital mapping companies account for virtually all satnav maps), so the system asks for a junction instead, listing all possible junctions on my road.
It comes into its own where those crappy portable units/phones etc fail, in those "difficult" areas where the satelites aren't that visible.

Works in multi storey and underground car parks as well, due to speed sensor and direction capabiliites :)

Well that didn't last long stopped working again today :'( ...Still plays CD's the music type though :-\
-
But why would the music CD work an not the Nav disc is it possible i've bought a fake disc and its not able to read it correctly :-\
-
This was the one i bought..

It just ejects these discs now :(

The blue one is the disc to use according to the seller..
-
Does seem to be genuine but what's with the other disc :-\
-
One other thing I'm planning on putting a Bosch S5 battery on it but on the card in the leather owners car book/case these doesn't seem to be a radio code just says..
Radio Type / Code. 2013 / ****
Will I have to get the radio code done when i replace the battery :-\
I do vaguely remember someone saying the NCDC 2013/2015 won't lose it's code when battery is disconnected / reconnected not 100% though..
-
Did also try a Sony brand CD cleaner which is clean only used it once or twice on the Bose stereo in the house and it ejects that also but when put in the multi-changer 4 disc player it worked..
But the nav disc slot plays all the music CDs that ive tried fine (all genuine not burned discs), as has been suggested possibly the laser is on its way out but why would it play the music discs ??? ..
Have read on some other threads that if the radio is cold the nav wouldn't work and would work when warm.. And I tried it today in the evening fairly cold and damp but its doubtful this is causing it not to work :-\
I'm not too fussed its just annoying.. If its there it should work that's how I look at these things but they rarely do work that is ;D
-
2013 + CID here. I've replaced the battery twice, even sent the CID to repair (blank screen issue) and I've never had to use the code. I think it's not needed if you don't replace the screen or unit, so they keep paired.
Cheers
-
Using a CD cleaner will only shag it further, poor bloody laser.
Is the CD a pressed silver CD, or a greenish CDR (on the non-label side)? Certainly the pic above shows it to be a CDR.
But the end result is the same, if it ejects after about 30s with a message about inserting disk the right way up, then the laser is shagged.
Coding works differently on these, you can disconnect the battery without fear on these.
-
As TB says, that picture shows a Verbatim CDr
NOT a genuine disc !!! ;)
-
Nagelneue Original-CD (Neuware) in the sellers title suggests original, but I would agree with TB picture looks like a CDR, post up a pic of the whole disk front and back.
-
Yep, report the bugger to ebay looks like his sold loads.
-

Will do i'll upload full pics of both sides..
Is there anywhere that can fix these units ?
And could someone PM me a link to a genuine nav disc no more than £25 ideally ..
According to the seller you should put the silver disc in first to update the system but this disc looks like the type you buy from the shop to burn on to..
And then place the actual nav disc as he says then it will work :-\

Yes it needs to update the firmware before running the Nav Disc. I seem to recall that that seller sends an original Nav Disc and a copied firmware disc. If your laser can't handle the copied disc just for the firmware upload then your laser focusing is fubared.
You'll enjoy replacing the Nav Laser :)
-
NCDx series do not need the update disk, whatever Navteq instructions (incorrectly) say, the updated software (last updated around 2005/6) is on the map disk on all the newer maps.
£25 for a genuine recentish map disk? You'll be lucky now... ...a couple of years back, maybe...
-
It worked again earlier today, It's not going to be something i depend on in its current state working when it feels like it :-\
Now say i did buy another NCDC 2013 unit presumably its working, How difficult would it be to get it to work with my car ?
-
Now say i did buy another NCDC 2013 unit presumably its working, How difficult would it be to get it to work with my car ?
Its likely to have a laser past its best.
Besides, I doubt you have the equipment to sort out the security.

If i took the car to a VX dealer could they do it i wonder :-\

No, not recommended. ;)
-
So then really its best to just leave it as it is and forget about it and send the Nav discs back to seller :-\
The Joys of an Elite then...
Sat-Nav doesn't work.
Parking sensors don't work.
Ashtray won't close.
::)

Everything is repairable, it's just a matter of how much you want to spend.

About £35 for a laser. :y

Is there a guide on how to replace one ?
The lasers are available here ....
http://www.lasertrader.de/english/
But how you go about changing one I don't know ... mine needs doing but I don't have the confidence / knowledge to do it ... :( although I am slowly getting tempted to try .... :-\ :-\ :-\

I never wrote the guide because, while you can replace the laser units on these, it's not the simplest of procedures and to be honest, I really didn't fancy putting a guide up and then having lot's of people upset because they were struggling with their units.
The more you do, the easier it gets, but the easiest solution would be to buy the complete Nav drive chassis as it would just be a simple swap job.

Ah, How much would you want to do mine if you bought the parts needed, p&p etc ?
Should have added, (not anytime soon but in the near future ;))

i remember changing mine, took me 20-30 mins but i am mechanically minded, not missed a beat since and was only a 7 quid jobbie from germany
