Ive got a front bumper to spray and im going to use rattle cans , wont be doing this till it warms up but what paint should i be using ? Anyone used rattle cans and which make is going to be the best , is there a one coat spray without primer :-\ :y

Emd, if you want a proper and a long lasting job, remove the old paint (god knows what layers/surprise you will face) -(150 or 320) and prime it.. then sand the prime with 1200 (surface must be as smooth as possible).. no idea about your rattle cans though :-\
-
distance 20-25 cms , straight 90 degrees to surface and longitudinal movements except the wheel arches..
move your hand at a constant speed and dont stop.. next layer must overlap 50% on the previous.. turning moment outside the bumper area.. :y

I've done a couple of bumpers with rattle cans (too much trouble, or too lazy, to get spray gear out), need to flat, spray with primer (use correct primer for plastic bumpers for good adhesion), lightly flat, then rattle can it (I used 2 cans roughly per bumper). Got my cans from local motor factors (in Rushden), who colour match and mix up the cans (always had goodish match this way). Spray clear lacquer while colour coat still "soft" to minimise risk of delamination :y

Thanks chaps , the bumper will be off the car and apparently already sanded down . If i can get a near enough match i thought about using plasticote :-\ , does not need primer and gives a strong coat :)

No experience of that so can't comment.

Sound about right ;) Ive never been sure on this but do you flatten the paint before applying lacquer ?? Im thinking it may give a better shine :-\ :-\

Depends how good you are at spraying - I've always gone straight over with the lacquer.

Ive done small items but nothing this big , biggest problem is the bugs settling on it >:( Although im hoping it might fit in the shed ..

I use one of these with rattle cans, gives much better control over the paint

your car color is silver which is very hard to match.. besides plastic surfaces have different electrostatic loads then metal surfaces so
whatever you do, the final color will be a different shade even with a matching paint.. :-\
so first try on another wide surface imo.. if you ask my opinion, first apply 4 tiny layers on the bumper and close the surface.. let it dry .. next day sand 1200-1500 (old) lightly .. and finally apply 2 layers paint 3 layers laquer ..
ps: keep a tweezer handy and if any insect stick to paint (while painting) take it with a tweezer (not by finger ;D ) than spray the area few times , it will heal itself :y but during dry up time dont touch anything

if you sand the old paint including old primer, you wil definitely need plastic primer first
