Title: Omega airbag failure ?

Car has taken a bit of a thump.Appears that the roof was chopped off to remove someone. No sign of airbag deployment though. :-\

If the driver or front passenger complains of any spine pain / numbness, I believe its standard practice to chop the roof off now days.  :-\

As for the airbag, it looks like a nice clean slice in and with no deformation under the bonnet i'd be surprised if it did go off tbh.

Is it true that the airbag wont deploy if the seatbelts aren't fastened?

I smashed into the side of a nissan in my Omega Elite at around 40mph, classic T-Bone, hit him square on and not one of the dash or seat airbags deployed.  Hell of a way to test them but luckily I walked away once I had climbed out the passenger side door as the drivers door was jammed.  huge frontal impact that even ripped of one of the front wheels with the strut attached.  I was dissapointed that they had failed but glad I wasn't injured.

Same for me last year. Driving an astra coupe t-boned a seat and my airbags never deployed but his all did. Was later told that it was because the seatbelt wasn't in. Anyone know why they dont deploy if seatbelt not on, is it a safety feature or is it just that the circuit isn't complete. If I'd known before they wouldn't deploy I'd have been much more careful about wearing my seatbelt and maybe I wouldn't be where I am today!

Mine didn't when I buried it in the back of a lorry :-\ one less part to replace I guess ::)

Seriously though remember reading an article about the development of the Corsa D. One of the designers commented (after the airbags deployed during a simulated collision with a boar) that he was disappointed the airbags had deployed. His reasoning was that the airbag should only fire when they are actually needed, and decribed the following scenario...

'The car loses control and skids mid corner on a country road. It runs off the road, clipping another car, hitting a road sign, an embankment and finally is stopped when it hits a tree head on. At what point would you want the airbags to fire? After the initial impact? Hitting the sign? Hitting the bank? What happens when it hits the tree?
They can only fire once, so we had better be damn certain that they only fire when absolutely necessary.'
