Title: Pure stupidity
Post by: Gaffers on 21 May 2013, 17:17:41
I know that there are some on here who hate cyclists for a myriad of reasons, some of which very closely resemble those of this young lady:

clicky1 (http://ipayroadtax.com/no-such-thing-as-road-tax/i-knocked-a-cyclist-off-his-bike-i-have-right-of-way-he-doesnt-even-pay-road-tax/)

Clicky2 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-22602141)

Personally I hope she gets everything she deserves as a message to those who show the same contempt for other road users (not just cyclists it appears)

And in the fashion of a complete sh!t-stirrer, now that I have kicked the wasp nest I shall retire to my safe haven and watch ;D

to be honest I hate most other road users in general but then I am a miserable old sod but people like this cant be allowed on our roads most of us have kids grand kids etc who ride bikes, how would she feel if it was one of her own on that bike and someone hit them. sorry don't mean just kids we all have a right to use the roads and be as safe as possible on them

For the moment, let's ignore the bit about knocking a cylist off his bike . . . stupid, arrogant, dangerous, yes of course

. . . . . the really certifiable stupidity is tweeting about it. Amazing  :o

What is it about Twitter that deactivates people's brains ?    ???

I always give cyclists as wide a berth as possible when overtaking them,in much the same way as I pull as close to the nearside as is reasonable when being overtaken by a motorcyclist.I see it as both a courtesy and a safety measure. This young woman needs to be taught a sharp lesson it would seem.

I am (was  :( ) a very keen cyclist - between the ages of 16 and 26 I used to do about 10,000 miles a year by pushbike.
One of the reasons I stopped was because it simply became more and more dangerous  >:(

having said that...
I was driving down the A653 dewsbury road towards leeds the other day. (urban, slightly narrow) dual carriageway - 40mph speed limit
Two cyclists in front of me - doing about 20-25mph mph One in the centre of the inside lane, one in the centre of the outside lane - talking  >:( - so not enough room to overtake.

I drive a transit, btw.
I wait about 300yds, then *gently* beep my horn. No response.
Another 400yds, and I now have about 10 or 12 vehicles at the back of me.

I blasted my horn, then overtook at what I considered an unsafe distance from the nearest cyclist - who then proceeded to give *me* a mouthful.

I pulled over, and exited the van, but he declined to continue our conversation  :-X

idiot.

yep, never ceases to amaze me how so many people put stupid comments on facebook/twitter etc and seem to think that no-one out there who they dont want to see them will get to hear about it! Ive almost lost count of the number of idiots who have called in sick at work only to then find themselves in trouble because theyve posted photos/comments of their night on the lash or else thoughtlessly post stuff that gets them into trouble with relationships or work. Many companies now include making certain comments on social network sites part of their disciplinary processes. Overall I guess social networks are a good thing but their openess to abuse, especially regarding various forms of bullying/slander cant be ignored.Problem is that too many posters either forget that such posts arent as private as they think they are (and that records of posts cannot so easily be deleted) and , more importantly, simply dont engage brain before they type ;D

I hope she gets her just desserts.

there is plenty of room on the roads for everyone.

My mother was a keen roadracer cyclist(100mile races) when she was 18 got ran over by an empty S.A. Bell articulated lorry. She lived and has had back problems ever since. The problems improved dramtaically about 8 years ago when she tripped and fell in Newcastle upon Tyne on an uneven paving slab. A passer by said are you alright as he picked her up. Yes she replied I haven't felt like this for 60 years or so. The lorry company bought her a new bike by the way. The following lorry driver said "it was the drivers fault 100%".

That changed my Mums life for the worse for ever - well nearly forever, she hasn't got long left .

If only people took more care. They would if it was their family on a bike.

The old "They don't pay road tax" bugs me a lot. Cars which produce less than 100g of co2 per KM are taxed nothing, so why should a bike be?
