Title: ECU reprogramming problem
Post by: Andy89 on 21 May 2013, 22:53:00
Went to Opel to reprogram the ecu from an automatic to a manual
But when they tried to reprogram it, an weird error ocurred
They could not do it because the ecu would not give the car's vin number or something like that (they used a computer, so not tech2)

Has anyone here noticed a similar problem?

Is the non-DBW ECU was programmable for transmission type? I have a feeling that it deduces it based on whether there is activity on the communication line from the transmission ECU. If the wire is grounded it assumes manual. I may be wrong, though.

You are indeed correct.

And the part number for auto/manual/2.5/3.0 ecu's is the same post 97

Yes. recently swooped a 3.0 MV6 ECU from an Auto into a Manual, along with the imobiliser bits, no issues at all, as Mark pointed out at the time its the Loom that tells the ECU whats what.  :y

I thought so too, but if i change the engine harness to one from a manual the engine cuts all power when i hit the pedal all the way
Opel say they can change it to manual but are stopped by this fault

Are you sure the harness was from an identical car? Same plenum, etc? IIRC the throttle pot was the other way around on some cars.

You shouldn't need another engine harness.

2.5 and 3.0 maps are different (and rev limits ??? ).. besides we didnt do any grounding for the conversion and the 3.0 manual ecu work directly in manual mode.. :-\   and there are a range of ecu part numbers  for VIN code range as far as I remember :-\

for your year model
these are necessary MID codes.. requires tech 2..

X25XE manual MID code   : 17
X30XE manual MID code   : 19

otherwise you will see erroneous consumption values..
