Title: Towbar electrics
Post by: BlueBridge on 23 May 2013, 01:40:57
I've just connected the electrics for my towbar, all working except brake light, all connected as should be, but doesn't work, I think I had the same problem when doing this on my last Omega and coupled it with the brake light cable going into drivers side brake light, but still doesn't work, any ideas anyone??

You've taken your feed from the socket in the boot .... that is in turn fed from a relay base under the steering column (face lift) or behind the glove box (PFL). You need to fit the trailer 'relay' or just bridge the two wires .................. or do what you did last time  ;)

Have a search via Google - it's on the old site  :y (I'll try & find it at work later if I've time )

I remember having similar when fitting mine. I couldn't get hold of a plug for the supply socket in the boot so decided to use the crimp on connectors supplied by the manufacturer, connecting in just below the socket using the socket feed cables thereby limiting damage to the loom.

I can't remember now which feed I had a problem with but may well have been brakes. Whichever one it was, I had to re route that cable to the main loom to pick up from there. It all works fine. I do remember the connectors needing some persuasion before they tapped in/connected properly. I also made frequent use of the multi-meter to diagnose the issue and to ensure I was tapping the correct cable.
