Have had a really really crap year. Been off work, all our savings are basically gone and we were getting pretty pissed off about being broke all the time. Anyway, SWMBO's father called her yesterday to say he needed to see her and she went up last night. He's an elderly farmer who owns quite a bit of land and he's decided that he's not fit for the farming anymore. He built a new 4 bed bungalow 4-5 yrs ago and he's offered it to the wife for £30k, said it would be free but he needs the money to build himself another little cottage on the land and clear whats left of his original mortgage. Was gobsmacked to say the least but then she told me that there are 6 huge windmills being built on the land which he will receive £18k per yr for each of them and after a year he will be dividing them between the three children so she'll be getting the rent from 2 of them from then onwards. I think light at the end of the tunnel is definitely an understatement but its funny how things work out eh?

Yeah, happy your getting sorted mate :y, didn't want to sound like a knob there, just can't believe how much rent he's getting.

No worries Cam. That's what he reckons rent-wise, he does have to give over quite a bit of land to them and has to stay outside a certain radius of the windmills at all times but he still owns the land when all is said and done. They must be going to generate a huge amount of electricity though if they can afford to pay that out. Its been in the offing for the last 3 yrs I think but construction is due to start very soon. He starts receiving the rent from July whether the mills are up or not!

Jeezo, and they say farmers have no money!
People pay big money to live in a windwill for some reason, my dad is one of them but he still cant give me a decent reason why :-\
