Title: Should I oil or grease my discs?
Post by: terry paget on 01 June 2013, 14:28:11
Having replaced my shiny new solid rear discs with the older worn ventilated rear discs, I am wondering how best to store the new solid discs until I fit them to one of my 2 litre Omegas. I fear they will rust if I just put them on a shelf in the garage. Should I oil them, grease them, or just seal them in a poly bag dry?

A coat of light oil might be prudent if storing them for a while :-\ Be sure to thoroughly degrease them prior to fitting them though :y

I would avoid a polythene bag as it may sweat and cause them to rust.  :y

As Al said, a light smear of grease/oil may be beneficial, as after all, they are delivered greased.

Must admit thinking it was a joke when I read the topic title.  ;D ;D :y

For storeing discs,
1 cardboard box
2 gresaproof paper
3 tin hmp grase
4 paint brush.

Apply grease all over disc's using paint brush, dont be shy, then wrap in grease proof, place in box and store some were dry.
when you come to degreasing them to use,get some brake cleaner to remove the grease. :y

wd40 i find the best for storing discs as when your ready to use them just a quick wipe off will surfice as any left over wd will just burn off when used

That's very unlikely as there is no silicone in WD40 ???

WD40 for storage. Brake/Carb cleaner before they go on the car. Simplez.
