It seems that my alternator on my 3.2 V6 2001 has broke down.
On the scrap yards here in Sweden I have found two for the 3.0 V6, will they fit on my car?
I have looked at eBay in UK but could only find 3.0s there too...
Kind of urgent :'(
Thanks

One from a 3.0 will fit.

Thanks
Even if they are from a 1999 or 2000 year car?

Yes, slightly reduced charging current (read 10-20A) but direct bolt on replacement

Wouldn't it be easier / cheaper to change the regulator providing the bearings are ok ?

Well, maybe so.
I found one in the scrapyard that had been refurnished with new bearings and parts.
I might repair the old one and keep as a spare.
Thanks

The problem I had occurred this morning. I was driving to Stockholm 110 km from home. When I got there it was heavy traffic I spent a lot of time standing still in idle. Then some lights went on in the dash. Airbag, ABS and TractionControl went on but with a fade. I went out in the next lane were the traffic flowed ( I was on an exit ramp) and the lights went out. But when they did the battery light went on for a short while. Then I ended up in another traffic jam and after a while of standing still on idle the three lights came back on again. I was able to turn around and when I got up to speed the lights went out. Temp guage showed 100°C.
I decided to park the car, opened the hood to let it cool down. After 30 minutes I tried to start it and it was almost dead and wouldn't crank. I left it and went to my visit I was going to.
Then in the afternoon I got back, it started without any problem, cranked as always. I drove all the way home without any glitches.
I took a voltage reading on the battery and it showed 12.3V. Kind of low I think.
I guess this was temperature related, outside temp were 23°C. It should handle that, it's not extreme. Both fans are running, coolant is OK. It might need a flushing.
Hope it gets better when I change the alternator.

Erm. 3.0 wouldn't fit when vx ran out of 3.2 ones and tried to sell me a 3.0 one. Loom wouldn't reach the new post positions, and the loom spade connector was too big. :-\

Although master may have made his fit somehow. :-\
-
Fitted a few now, cant recall changing anything.
Unless there was a later change to the loom on 2003 models.

This is what I had.
3.2 at the top of the pic. Cable spade connector wouldn't reach or fit on the bottom post ime. :-\
Might be a loom difference I suppose. :-\

Same thing for me, the 3.0 alternator had the connectors in different positions. But I was able to bend and twist the feed cable around to get it to fit. I did the connections before I mounted the new one.
