Title: An ebay bidding question
Post by: Vamps on 03 June 2013, 20:13:30
I buy a lot from ebay, mostly BIN stuff, currently bidding on a car, there other bids but I cant tell if it is one or more people bidding as it simply says;

private listing - bidders' identities protected.... ::) ::)

I am not sure I have seen this before... :-\ is this normal when bidding on a car? tis years since I last did.......Is there a way of seeing the bidders? ;)

Seller has the option to keep private any bidders` identity, and no, you can`t see or find out who the bidders are

So it could even be the seller pushing me, been outbid twice, but just by a littl, I put in another £100 and I am winning again.................all good fun ;) ;)

Need a car transporter as well, now.... ::) ::)

Ime sellers do this so they can push the price up without making it obvious. ;)

It's a load of crap. You can never see the bidders true ID anyway, just two letters with as astericks in the middle.

It's the same as any other auction, Mike. Set yourself a limit and stick to it. If you get it for less, happy days. If not, his mate will have to buy it. :)

Vamps  . . .auction sites are crap now  . . . my advice is just sit on it now  . . .decide what your maximum bid would be  . . then just wait & if it has not reached that figure as it approaches the last few seconds  . . . bid at that figure  . .even if it is £100 or  more than what the current bid is sitting at.

I always bid & confirm my bids at 3 secs from the end  . . . usually works  . . .not sure about the last second though  :-\

Using this method  . . .the price is not bumped up  & if you win it , it will be at your max  figure or LESS :y

If you don't win  . .there will be another coming up soon  . . . but good luck  :y

Try www.anyvan.com its a sort of reverse auction site for delivery. You put what you want shifted (i.e an Omega via trailer) with the 2 postcodes and then get notified of delivery costs
- which reduce as the other bidders see them also. I was looking to move a non-runner a distance of 120 miles and the price eventually came down to well under £100 - which I was impressed with for a one way service with isurance. HTH - Rob  :y

Possibly sellers associate bidding it up  :-\

what i would like to know is , & i am probably missing a fundemental point here , take the 3.2 that was bid up to £920 & won  last night .  tonight it is re listed . We see this happening time & time again ,  . . but  . . . what happens about the selling fee to e bay (£40 .00 ish I think on that sale )

anyone got any idea . . e bay must want there fee ? :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I think the seller says the buyer backed out, so no fees due, however if it goes through as a sale, which it should do, I don't know............. :-\ :-\ :-\

I always sell using the private seller thing, as I had one case where somone contacted the bidder and offered them the same item for cash cheaper, so they never turned up to collect, I was out £40 or so in fees.

~Guessing that this was a good while ago as for  a long time now, when you look at the bidder list you only see a part of their e bay name, so for another party to contact them is almost impossible. Only the seller gets the bidders full e bay details.

From a sellers point of view . .  did you contact e bay & tell them the winning bidder had pulled out .

I had a winning  buyer pull out when selling my daughters Micra. E bay contacted the winning bidder & my selling fee was not charged.

All this of course is assuming that it is e bay you are talking about :-\

Best thing to do on Egay is what i do. set yourself a top price. wait till the last 30 second and bid the full ammount you have set. but wait to confirm the bid in the last 10 seconds.
I have won lots of items for next to nothing this way.
If you are a seller then the early bidders are great for you as they are putting up the price.
If you are a buyer then this is more expensive for you.
Always leave your bid to the last seconds..

I use, and have used for the past ten years, a free program called "Bid o Matic" (or biet-o-matic) written by a some german bloke.
Autobids at a (programmable) 3 seconds before end of auction, you can put several auctions in group so it will autobid on them all until you win one of them.
Only downside is that your PC has to stay connected to the net, so if your connection goes down, or you switch of the computer, it won't bid.
Apart from that, I've been very happy with it - it's saved me a fair old amount of money, won me a lot of good stuff at cheap prices - often much less than my highest bid would have been.
Did I mention it's free?

There's another auto bidder called Auction Sniper that bids in the last couple of seconds.  I hav'nt used it for a while but you don't need to be online, just input all the details and it does the rest!  :y

Two tips for ebay  (CARS)

1. get off your ass and go look at the car. Even if its 200 miles away.

2. decide what you would pay for it .( lets say £1000) Enter your bid in the last 10 sec.(1 bid only)and bid £1002)cos no one wants to loose by £1, But others think the same. :y

The best Omega we had was bought blind, the worst was travelled to and bought from a garage..........go figure....... ::) ::)

In my opinion when buying from ebay, never make a purchase that, you could not afford to take a hit on, tyres, parts and scrap, in worst case; a lot of communication has been going on behind the scenes...... ;) ;)

I have bought cars on the condition that they have been through an MoT and passed before I commit :y

At least if it turns out to be a shed, you know that it is essentially fit for purpose :y

On Egay....you get what you don't ask about.
Ask the right questions an get the correct anwsers, otherwise walk away.
They cannot lie or you get your expenses back. been there....and done it.
you must know what to ask. never viewed a car on EGay but always known what to ask so always known what i was getting.....
Tip is .....Always do your research.
