Title: DVD writer, er...problem
Post by: Terbs on 03 June 2013, 21:27:46
Hi all....
This morning whilst putting in a blank DVD in the computer, only as the drawer went in, did I noticed the little foam washer thing from the DVD pack went in also :( :(
Can these things be taken apart by a plonker like me :( or is this a place my pinkies should not go. It seems to work still, but I don't want it catching fire or something
Advice appreciated.

if you remove the drive from the pc you should be able to  take the covers off and remove the foam spacer from the spinner area, how ever not sure about laptop drives, someone else should be able to confirm about that !

they normally slide out with a couple of screws removed on a laptop.
PC full size the case comes off quite easily, worst case as dbug said the are only about £20 to replace

Before dismantling it try putting a sacrificial disc in covered in gum glue or something.  That might get it out if it's in the tray area :y

New drive is less than £15 from most places, probably not worth rather around - you don't know if its done other damage.
