Title: EML Light
Post by: trueiron on 05 June 2013, 12:20:07
Hi all

Am back to being an omega owner again after a long break.  Just bought a 2002 2.2 CD with 68000 on the clock for a very low price

One thing - eml light is on and has been since the Head Gasket was changed according to owner.  Havent driven it yet but I would have thought its a simple case of resetting it

If so - anyone local to SLady bitshorpe with the right kit

Cheers

No - they have to be cleared

From what I can see - the owner (70 yr old lady) has always taken it to Vauxhall for work but refuses to pay £95 to get the light cleared

The car runs fine

I can't think of an engine management fault that doesn't eventually clear the light once rectified, so expect there to be a fault on the engine somewhere.  ;)

The only system that needs a manual reset to turn off a fault light is the airbag.

No - they have to be cleared ....

wrong  ;) ;) The car can still a fault so the EML is still on.

As Kevin says, when the fault is fixed, the light will go out.  :y :y

Sure - resetting the codes reset the trims that were cocked due to a duff lamda.

(which is why if you suspect emissions related faults, look at the live data before clearing the codes)

Silly question but.....
I thought/understood that the ECUs fitted to Omegas store the error codes in e2prom and that pulling the battery connection couldn't clear the codes :-\
Are fuel trims NOT stored in e2prom (stored in ram maybe) and forgotten if the battery is disconnected?

IME some stuff is indeed forgotten when the battery is disconnected and some isn't.

Parameters such as fuel trims, which change very regularly, won't be in e2 memory because the memory can only survive a relatively limited number of write cycles.
