Title: CDC40 OPERA stereo system
Post by: KrisGT4 on 12 June 2013, 13:53:58
Hi,
Has anyone tried to fix CDC40 OPERA stereo system in his OMEGA C ??
I wonder if the steering wheel controls are compatible withe this system.
I know for fact that the display and head unit need to be changed in the same time. Does the cable and sockets are the same?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I believe TB tried with the similar CD70, with marginal success  :-\

Problem is that the wiring in the later Vectra C is predominantly CanBus, whereas the Omega is mostly not :-\

There are easier (and arguably better) ways of upgrading the standard set up assuming it's not a Bose unit in your car :y

At the moment im equipped with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-C-OMEGA-CD-PLAYER-NO-CODE-/321043378658?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item4abfad31e2 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-C-OMEGA-CD-PLAYER-NO-CODE-/321043378658?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item4abfad31e2) stereo, but i'm pretty sure that isn't BOSE.
I might be wrong

Agreed, Bose on that unit would be a surprise :y

So ist worth to convert it to http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-C-CD70-NAVI-WITH-COMPLETE-HEAD-UNIT/300905988190?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D8327229296920540461%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D300905988190%26 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-C-CD70-NAVI-WITH-COMPLETE-HEAD-UNIT/300905988190?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D8327229296920540461%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D300905988190%26)
or I should stop dreaming and get this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Omega-Double-Din-Remote-SD-USB-MP3-Stereo-Tuner-Player-Car-Radio-Kit-/350802934574?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item51ad7bfb2e (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Omega-Double-Din-Remote-SD-USB-MP3-Stereo-Tuner-Player-Car-Radio-Kit-/350802934574?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item51ad7bfb2e)

I'm this kind of person who know what he wants, and all the buttons in my OMEGA have to be in working order  8)

Personally I have one of theses...

 http://www.sony.co.uk/product/mfi-ipod-car-audio/xav-72bt  (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/mfi-ipod-car-audio/xav-72bt)

Autoleads do steering wheel controls for pretty much all aftermarket headunits :y

But each to their own :-\

The Vectra units are a couple of generations old, so whilst they might be better at playing home produced cds than the Omega ones, they're nothing special, even if you can get one to work in the Omega :-\

Meant to say Dave DND is the person hereaboots to ask :y

If and when GM ever release an Omega-C maybe someone can try. But fitting later generation double din stereo to an Omega-B facelift is far from trivial.

Get on with it!  :y

Mind you, if you succeeded i'd then have a stack of NCDC2013/15's!

I lost interest at the point that I realised that I'd need to make a CAN interface between the HU and CID

And the gain? TMC and CDRs/MP3s. I use CDRs anyway, plus know how to wire MP3 player in.

It'll be in his head somewhere, if only he could see the wiring for the trees :y

Actually thats a bit of a myth that is causing major problems in other Vx cars - if the radios are not depaired and paired correctly the to parent car, it can cause serious ECU and Tech2 issues.

The CDXX range of later VX units all require CAN to switch on.

However . . . . .

It may interest you to know that the later GM "Touch and Connect" systems from the Corsa actually powers up and functions on the bench from a normal 12v supply. Some form of Speed signal is still going to be required, but I would reckon a lot easier for you guys to hack about and find a solution to than the CDxx stuff - added bonus is that the unit is self contained with SD card mapping and a single DIN unit behind the dash to aid installation.

Don`t ask me to modify it for the Omega, I`m too busy - just a heads up for you
