Title: 2006 Audi A3 1.9 TDI 105 Judder/Misfire?
Post by: Del Boy on 12 June 2013, 17:16:18
Got a 2006 Audi A3 at the minute, VAG 1.9 TDI 105, when under load in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and you plant your foot right down you get a shudder vibration (noticeable by everyone) as the turbo kicks in, and in 5th the whole thing shakes violently as if its misfiring, if you accelerate higher up the Rev range however it's fine? This only happens if you go under full load, ease the power on and it's ok. Any ideas?

Also anyone know the oil capacity for these engines?

1.9 TDI 105 :y. I'll have a check, will get the reader on it too. It's a strange one, haven't heard of it before really.

Fuel filter??

That's a thought I was having, I'll order one in the morning. Giving it a full service before it goes anyway :).

My son had a 2007 A3 1.9tdi and the gearbox problem was more a hesitation issue then a shudder when it picked up - it was off the road weeks while they tinkered with software - ended up with new gearbox. On Audi forums there seemed to be a certain resignation that this is a "feature" of this model. We did not accept that conclusion.

Was his Auto or Manual? Certainly doesn't feel gearbox to me, and I hope it isn't.

Doing the service, got the fuel filter out, looks clogged right up which could maybe point to my problem, however they have sent me the wrong fuel filter  >:(.

It crossed my mine, and then a friend mentioned it, I sincerely hope it isn't, I do think it is injector related to be honest, but have got to pop and get the new fuel filter shortly, so will see if that helps. It's had some TLC today (Oil, oil filter, air filter, new top mounts, new anti-roll bars, new CV boot) so whatever the fix it best be simple  ;D.

I've read about the injector thing, I think that's what it is, although I still haven't changed the fuel filter. I like it though, nice car  :y.

Seems you could well be spot on :(. Clutch started slipping earlier under heavyish throttle, horrible chattering noise after giving it some which got worse when putting the clutch in. Been nursing it back from where I was and it's given no trouble. 'Quality German Engineering'  ::) ;D.

Bit of an oxymoron there ;D

Be wary of the clutch slave cylinder. Mine failed shortly after the dmf and clutch were changed ::) the only positives when the dmf failed on the Altea, was that it was replaced under warranty, my only cost being the clutch parts 8) clutch was changed out of convenience rather than failure though :-\
