Title: Another Possible TVP Car?
Post by: P6UL K on 14 June 2013, 11:09:58
Fella I work with claims to have an ex-TVP car, it's a green saloon and was apparently a training vehicle. I spoke to him for quite a while about it and I felt I was getting the usual 'pub talk' lol... He said it had a 'Lotus Carlton chip' in it and he'd had it at 155+ more than a few times!!

Registration is W948 FWL

Is he right or did I experience 25min of clap-trap?

.. But not the two ruddy great turbos. ::)

I'm going for clap-trap. 25 minutes of your life wasted, I'm afraid. ;)

As the LC had a Stand alone AC Delco engine management system and the Omega has Bosch Motroic system and the two are not interchangeable then i think it will be clap trap

He was pretty sure that it was a TVP car tho, said he'd seen it on Road/Car Wars like I have with mine.

What's the deal with these chips then? I'm sure I've read on here that some of the TVP cars were chipped/remapped?

Think His talking Fosters Piss Paul, well on the Lotus side of things.

Some were Chipped (3.0) or Remaped (3.2) but not all, I have a small collection of 3.0 chips that Ive played about with from some Plod, the 3.2 I have from TVP has been remapped, not sure if it was done by them or in its after life though.

W948 FWL did indeed used to belong to TVP. When in service, there were no mechanical / engine alterations made to it.

Its sister vehicle, W944 FWL is below...

Were those hubcaps unique to the unmarked TVP cars?  As he still has them on his car!

25 minutes of uninformed clap trap .

almost nothing off an LC lump is directly interchangeable with the omega lump....

(as already mentioned the LC had an entirely different engine management system, not to mention not even being based on the same engine format...    )

what he's discovered is that the omega is quite quick with some fairly long legs.....

and that speedos lie,   unless they're IRC notts calibrated (and still in spec, with no changes to tyre sizes and so on..)

and Josh is pretty much a walking bible on TVP vehicles.....   ;)

Think they're standard early facelift base model (ie Government spec fitments), but have seen them on European cars. Though most of the 3.0 ex plods that I've seen had theses fitted...

The car in question is an Omega, and most plod 3.0s were fitted with the ones I linked to, they fit Senators etc with 15" wheels, but as ever Ebay sellers do tend to over sell their wares ::)

Hi all, just 'upping' this post from 4yrs ago! This car has now shown its head to me again and it's owner is gonna let me have it off of him as he wants it gone.

What kinda spec will it have? Manual? LSD? Fairly similar to my 3.2 I'd guess?

Thanks :y

Had a couple from TVP, in fact still got one of them, from the Police they all pretty much seem to be in reasonable nick, with good Engines and Mechanicals, would be good if it was a Manual not all were, if Manual expect 3.7 LSD, 3.9 LSD if Auto.

There going back a bit now so what the Car has been up to since leaving the Force who knows.

Good luck with it, Saloon or Estate?.

It's the green saloon that was pictured earlier on in this thread, on steel wheels with hubcaps and apparently was a training vehicle. The car has been garaged for about 3 to 4 years now so hopefully it shouldn't be too bad with just some light work to get it going again

It was on 134000 ish at it's last MOT in 2011 with the usual chassis leg rot around the steering box mount area and probably the other side and the sills and the rear legs too...
