Title: SWMBO throws down the gaunlet!
Post by: Big_Al on 18 May 2008, 15:44:06
Am probably in deep in the brown stuff here. :-[ :-[  Messing about with miggy all morning. SWMBO comes out and says "instead of fiddling with that bloody old car-  why don't you do me a favor and cook the dinner today" followed by " If you can of course -- because it's a bit skillful you know --probably a bit too  technical for a bloke"

Big mistake followed-  I was well and truly sucked in - and heard myself saying " Sunday roast --  well easy -- no probs there -do it with me eyes shut"

So have had a go and dinner is all on , scheduled for about 4-15 i hope.  SWMBO has tried to give me some advice- but not having any of that. Got nice bit of pork leg going with roast pots, savoy cabbage, carrots, sugarsnap peas( found them in the veggie store- just gonna cook em' as they are - flat and in their cases) even found some yorkie puds in the freezer.

Wish me luck guys and Gals -- but i am goona show 'Er  - next week she can do a full service on her own Vectra-- see how she gets on with that then. --- GOTTA GO SOUNdS LIKE SOMETHINGS BOILING OVER!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Big Al   ( Now an Appprentice Masterchef) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Roast Dinner? easy, i love cooking. If she makes you do it again peel an onion, halve it & put it in with the meat & tatties. Comes out sweet & soft, peachy. Im a bit lost working on the car though, used to enjoy pulling Cortinas, Mk1 &2 eccys apart & fixing 'em up but it's all sensors nowadays & i'm not prepared or able to change my plugs anymore.
For example i could change a water pump gasket on crossflow Ford in minutes but a similar job is a days work now.
I'd rather cook the dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-)

Oh YES! 8-)  SWMBO was mightily impessed.  Gave me 8/10 for the dinner-  and she's doing the washing up - well putting in DW ;D

Told her though it was  a one off-  not getting me at again.

We'll see how she copes next week when I  tell her to do the service on her Veccy- herself ;D ;D ;D

Think I've done us proud Guys -- she was gob smacked! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Gotta say I enjoy cooking a nice roast dinner, provinding there are a few people there to enjoy it, nice bottle of red to go with it and a port or 2 afterwards  :D

 :'( :'(
My wife and remaining home-dwelling son are both vegetarians.  It's years since I had a good Sunday roast.  It's not worth doing a roast dinner for one.
 :'( :'(
Actually, now that the aforementioned brat is off at university for most of the year, the wife and I have more or less reverted to bedsit cookery - it's a bit like being a student again, except I've got a better kitchen, and I've only got to share it one other.

Unfortunately, staples such as liver and bacon or kippers are banned - she can't stand the smell!
 :( :(

Time to sneak of for a carvery then.  The local pubs are getting better and better value these days.

Do'nt like carvery/family places. I miss real PUBS with a jukebox, pool table, dartboard. Proper "Boozers" are thin on the ground nowadays. I'm not into eating at the pub. Pubs used to be for drinking with your mates, now it's corperate chain plastic whacky wharehouse jobs with Mums & kids screaming at eachother & Dads wishing it was Monday.
"Locals" are sadly gone now but for once i'm happy to be old enough to have enjoyed them.
I don't think you'll see anyone playing cards or crib in W'spoons. :'(

Real pubs with Jukeboxes?  You have to be kidding!

I don't quite date from the spit-and-sawdust days, but that sort of place was around before I was allowed to go into pubs.  Carpet and music were rare, thank goodness.  Darts, shoveha'penny, bar billiards - that was your lot.  Mild in the Public, Bitter in the Saloon.  Port-and-lemon and Lager-and-lime for the ladies.
