Title: Bonnet release problem.
Post by: 2boxerdogs on 14 June 2013, 22:47:29
Went to open the bonnet of the 2.6 ,pulled lever & nothing happened. Got the wife to lean on the bonnet area whilst I pulled the lever & it opened, any tips how to  cure this before it gets worse ?

Had this problem recently after the car had been standing for a few months, Some WD40 and grease it was fine but if very slack may need adjusting  :-\

Hi.
Don't use wd40 as this dries and creates more problems later. use oil or spray grease on the bonnet pin and the socket. might need adjustment too but grease first and check to see if it sorts it. most of the time it does as if the pin/socket is dry this the cable and levers take up the slack and bend in stead of releasing the bonnet.
Normally a good lubrication will sort it.

Helps -when bonnet open-follow cable route yo catch-there is 10mm bolt near rad shield that clamps outer cable-undo bolt and pull cable away from catch a couple of mm and tighten again--takes seconds to do mate :y AND that always works :y

if and when you get the bonnet open,if you have recently been working inside the engine bay just check along both front wings for items you may have left in there (spanner, bolt, socket etc) done this twice on mine ::) and can make opening the bonnet a real pita ;)

I have found a couple of times that this happens wnen car is jacked up. Have to drop car down to release bonnet. Good idea to release bonnet before jacking if you will want to get into engine compartment, Hate  to think what must be happening when car is jacked up. >:(

Done this with a socket and ended up smashing the grille to bits >:(
