Title: Aircon regassing - how often ?
Post by: Johnny English on 19 June 2013, 08:31:18
Hi all, the achievement of my aircon nowdays seems a bit weaker than last year does not give so cold air as I adjusted it takes painfully long time untill I can feel the cold. Regassing was one year ago, do I have to refresh maybe?

thx   Laszlo

Every 18 months to 2 years to ensure it operates at maximum efficiency. If you let the system run low on refrigerant the compressor has to work twice as hard and will therefore wear out in half the time  :'(

You mean if I adjusted it to the maximum coldness when using?

The easy way to see if aircon is working is,
set temp to low turn on engine if the compressor is engaged and spinning its working, when they get low,on gas the pressure drops and the pressure valve will stop the system from working, compressor is stationary.
Common leak points are hp and lp port, and were the condenser joins the system, just near the battery tray.

Also check by just watching rev counter and switching ac on and off - revs should change noticeably if it is working.  Or pop bonnet and feel the alloy condensor it will be very noticeably cold if working.  Checking simply by feeling the air is always difficult unless it is hot weather - even uncooled air can feel cold when flowing.

that might be true on a modern system but not on a omega.

No record of TBE ever being regassed.

The Silver Bullet, well, thats had a few in my ownership, but 4 of those were by shitfit, so they don't count!!

Yes I always thought the A/Cworked until the sensor said not enough gas left then it switched off.  Apart from that I wouldn't expect more or less gas would make it work more or less hard. In fact arguably less gas might make for less work for the pump.
