Title: oil pressure light on when idling hot
Post by: terry paget on 19 June 2013, 10:55:44
Y188NFA 2.2 petrol manual 84333 miles on clock
Oil light comes on at idle when hot. Goes out when revved. Worrying. I have had this before on older cars, usually sign of worn oil pump and/or bearings. Not on a young Omega, surely? Do the sensors play up?

For the sake of a few quid its probably worth replacing the sensor first but it could be the oil strainer in the sump partially blocked or of course the pump failing as a worst case scenario :-\

Thanks, Henryd. Do you know where the oil pressure sensor is?

Haynes does mention it, gives the job 2 spanners and no pictures. It's somewhere at the front of the engine, apparently screwed into the rear of the oil pump housing on 2 litre engines. A picture would be appreciated!

It could be the oil pressure relief valve, needs a clean.

Agreed. Haynes does not mention the oil pressure relief valve in the index. Does anyone know where it is? Is there a how to guide?
