Was on way to work this morning at traffic lights sat next to an 04 plate BMW M3. Now i know they have more horses than the OK Coral but I thought sod it I'll give it a go. Now I wouldnt say it annihilated me but it did leave me behind. But once I had wound the old girl up to nearer the top of the clock (in sports obviously :y) the gap wasnt closing but he was gaining less tarmac if you know what I mean. I backed off further round the clock as there was a bend coming up at light speed. So a big :y :y to my mig!!

And why not :y :y :y

I was having a play against a work mates Alfa 156 (?) 2.5 thingy
He had me on take off, but once the numbers got big he could keep the pace :)
-
Yeh, got to say that it outruns most of the fast lane heaps in the BMW lane on the motorway.
I guess a standing start is never going to be wonderful in a 1600Kg car but then you wouldn't buy an Omega if that's what you are after.

M3 was not trying then.
M3 would destroy an Omega! Even the 3.2 manual has no hope. Got no chance in keeping up.
It was either not a true M3 (ie 316 badged up to M3) or he was not trying.
Sorry!
-
No it WAS an M3 as I say above it killed me. The point I was getting at was that past 70 ish (cough cough) The gap he was leaving me wasnt getting so big. But he was still disappearing!! :y Well im impressed with my mig's performance any how

I had a play a couple of years ago with a BMW320D, I was in my last 3.0 Elite which was an Auto but was chipped. The Diesel BM kept with me till 3 figure numbers and then I started to pull away. Suprised me :o

so in terms of law (below 70mph)... our cars are slow
a 1.6 VTS saxo can s**t on a 3.2 omega :(

Depends on age of M3, the older ones aren't actually that much quicker. Newer ones would win all the way up to the speed limiter.

Most tractors are quick off the line but start going backwards as soon as they run out of revs in first gear. Driver must have been keeping that one on the boil.

I had a tractor try on the north end of Droitwich bypass, he got off the line quick then power in a high geared car took over and left him.

There was a big Skoda Estate which cut me up at roundabout the other week - once we got back on the dual carriageway, I could barely keep up with him.
Didn't know Skoda made anything fast.
Or has my car run out of steam? :(

Oh, those nasty 1.9TD engines, we know how to get decent power from them :-X

You got one then? Police and Taxi use them up here, heard none of the old jokes for years now. :)

Just looked it up - they've make a 2.8 V6 - I feel a bit better now :)
I'm sure it wasn't a 1.9 diesel... :( I hope... :( :( Oh, dear... :'(
-
Its easy and cheap to get 200BHP from a 1.9 VW/Audi diesel these days :'(

I agree that big engined BMW's have got what it takes to out run an Omega for sure. However, what is important is the skill / bottle of the driver!
I have out paced Merc's, BMW's and a whole collection of high spec sports cars up to 150 mph in my previous 3.0 Elite, but they weren't either up to it as drivers or as mad as me in running at 2.5 miles per minute which I thoroughly enjoy (before someone asks; been driving 37 years and one million miles often at 100+mph ). They just obviously didn't fancy it, and were probably more sensible than me! ;D ;D ;D
Their cars however were 'up to it' and us Omega drivers shouldn't kid ourselves otherwise which I know Bighed was not doing. :y

Lizzie zoom your spot on. I knew its power n new it would win. But thought sod it!!!! :y

All the big 6 Migs have a fair turn of speed on 'em & we can surprise other cars that see them as Grandad motors. Sadly many new motors are faster than the now outdated Mig but i still love 'em.
Mine licks along ok, Markey Mark took it for a "blat" & reckons it pulls well for a 2.5. He knows his Migs so that'll do for me. :y
I enjoy mine best in 2nd & third gear. 8-)

I had a go in a brand new one with 90 miles on the clock..
Quite impresive interior and the power was a bit of a surprise, it also had the semi auto tipitromblic thingymajiggy thing in it. :y
