Title: Door lock jammed, scary moment
Post by: Jan Suhr on 24 June 2013, 16:37:51
Were out driving today and parked and locked the car to the deadlock mode.

My remote is not working so I locked with the key. When I came back and put in the key to open, nothing happened, it was stuck in dead lock. Pulling the key out and in again a few times and finally it unlocked.

When turning it to unlock I felt that something wasn't right, there was a resistance in the mechanism. I have a feeling that I could turn the key more than normal.

I will leave it in just normal lock next time so I can get in through the rear hatch if needed.

What could be the problem? the linkage or the motor?

Thanks

Jan

Thinking just the switches, as the unlock is normally powered -by turning key, you are simply closing a switch to activate the motors.

Could be the motor, though. I had one where the switch in the motor went dodgy so it would deadlock when locking normally, but then wouldn't move from the deadlocked position. I changed it pretty quick!

Actually, I was thinking of the switches in the motor, as they are usually the first to fail.

Ok, I'll try to find a motor on the scrapyard to replace mine with.

Thanks

I did send my old 2001 to the scrapyard a few weeks ago, I'll go there and see if I can get the motor from that one.

Otherwise they seem hard to find on used markets...

When pulling the lever to open the door there is a bit of resistance the last part of the movement. It might have something to do with it too?
