Title: Fiesta TDdi won't start
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 01 July 2013, 00:27:12
51 plate fiesta Td.

Went for a meal the other night, went to the pub to play pool/darts/drink beer afterwards (ladyfriend driving!) - upon exit from the pub, tried to start the car - dead as dead. headlights remained bright, but when turning into the start position, it would not turn over - not even a click from the starter motor when listening to it when the key is turned.

No signs of any trouble/failure from the starter - just suddenly not working.

Seems to be 12v at starter when trying to start, but does nothing.

Anyone with any knowledge of fiestas and common issues - would be very welcome to post :y :y

Fuses checked, all intact. Thinking probably solenoid on starter, but opinions welcome :y

Should add - bump starts without a problem and will run all day after a push start....

Give the starter a thump with a hammer!  :)

Jump lead from + battery terminal direct to + on starter to rule in/out wiring problem ?.........assuming normal checks to battery terminals and earth connections have already been carried out ?

Swap the solenoid for a new(er) one :y

Whacking the starter only works if the key is at the Cranking position :y

I would suggest duff starter then.Might be worth taking it off the car and testing it again ?  :-\

Sorted - it was a dead starter. Found a brilliant place near Maidenhead who sold me a new unit with a 2 year warranty for £77. Really not worth messing about with breaker parts, for that money.

I took a carrier bag of cold lager cans to a bunch of chaps working on a building over the road around lunchtime,  (which was very welcomed!) and in return got them to give me a bump start down the road... off I went and bought the new starter, then back to Beaconsfield to fit.

Easy job, three bolts and the electrical connectors, seemples. Only hampered slightly because someone had rounded one of the bolts in a past life - but the old "irwin" sockets came up trumps as always.

Turned the key, started better than it ever has. We went for a fillet steak and a pint, with the labour costs I managed to save myself :y (that's how I justified it to SWMBO, anyhoo ::) )

Thanks to all who replied :y :y
