I can see how handy it can be, Funnily enough i had a pack of bikes following me up close then some overtook all caught on my little cheap camera.. Although you'd need a front camera as well for number plates and such.. Think i might keep this camera till i can afford a good quality pair  :y

Hmm, interesting, though imo pointing in the wrong direction, but makes me thing should I have two? there are increasing situations where I find that I would benefit from such a camera, if it could be used in evidence, even for phone use or kids on the back seat, you would not believe what I see sometimes....... :( :(

Picks up sound OK I did a small blast at the end to see if it would pick up the exhaust note clearly not bad.. Aye I'd say have one in the front and back then you have all angles covered apart from the sides  :-\

Unfortunately not it doesn't come with a card, But I had a SanDisk 16GB class 6 ultra and it worked fine on that  :y

The SD card will cost more than the camera if you go for a good quality one  :o ;D

Sandisk Ultra SDHC 16GB

Another thing that amazed me considering the price the camera it starts recording automatically after you start the car up or you can set it up to only start recording when it detects movement...

One thing strange I found was it recorded in 2 minute periods maybe I haven't finished setting it up correctly or thats how it is.

And it has different resolution settings to chose from to extend recording time I had it on the highest setting, It stated around 3 hours record time remaining on a 16GB sd card.

How does it detect the car starting (not using motion) is it because it picks power off cigg lighter?

Yep if motion detection is off that's how it records pretty much as soon as you open the doors it starts recording if you leave it plugged in which I was a little worried about doing encase it drained the car battery overnight and recording the whole time, But there's a delay on the Omega about 5 minutes I think so it would stop recording when it cuts power I presume I didn't leave it on to find out, I'll try that sometime.

Motion is there i think for car parks, so if you are parked up in a multi story, car backs into you it captures it.

Would imagine the draw on it would be very low, so unless outside with lots of traffic/moving tree's should be ok.

I'd be tempted to hard wire it into the fuse box/cigg lighter, can't really gauge its size but could it go behind internal mirror?

Cable up into the headlining and down, for me if I fitted one it would need to be invisible while driving  :)

I'll take some pictures of it in the front when I have time, it's not big and its not small but it should go behind the mirror  :-\ .. I had to put it to the passenger side corner on the rear window after realising if I accidentally pressed the rear blind switch it would hit the camera and possibly cause damage to the blind  :o

Yep I wouldn't want the wire constantly dangling in the front if I was to put it there either.  :y

Just a word of caution with these things
I had a similar model to this with a slightly different arrangement of the IR led`s
Got it delivered in the morning & stuck in the inside of my windscreen & set off up the M3.
About 40 mins into my trip, I started to get a hot plastic burning sort of smell.
The smell just got steadily worse, so I started gropping around thinking it was the blower motor. My hand finally made contact with the power plug in the ciggy socket & it was hotter then hell. I yanked the think out via the red hot cable & made for the hard shoulder. Long story short the whole lot got the end of my boot into a ditch. Any new camera`s I buy now, get a few hours testing out of the car first .

We've got a Roadhawk (http://www.roadhawk.co.uk/)

Has front & rear cameras with simultaneous recording, Google Maps overlay, measures speed, heading, and the G-Force's experienced in the event of an accident (perfect for catching the whiplash bull$4itters).

Some insurers are also offering discounts if you do decide to fit one.

it was from a chinese seller direct I had purchased from previously.
It`s @ times like that a large hammer would come in handy. anyway I remembered to take out the memory card & it had stopped recording after 12 minutes. Just a rogue unit I suppose. The russian drivers seem to favour the later model Mio mivue camera. £120 ish.

When I got out the car near Bala the heat hit me like a ton of bricks getting out and by the time I got back to the car the interior was hotter than the outside and after over a mile walk in this heat with flys trying to suck my blood  :o :o I was more than relieved to turn the cool air conditioning to cool me down  :-* :-* :-* Oh and when I got home the engine bay was very sweaty around the AirCon pipes  :o

With some old vacuum hoses and a bit of A Team ingenuity, you could pipe the cold air from your car into your bedroom!  :y

Might be worth thinking about LPGing the car though if you're going to leave it running all night!!  ::)  :-\  ;D

Sent it back for a refund, just wouldn't turn on, Probably a faulty unit was going to get another but at the time out of stock, If you bought from Amazon Rog if anything goes wrong with it you got 30 days to open a returns request for a refund or replacent.

Yep, Amazon. I was getting some other things and thought I'd add this. Looks like a bit of fun, most other dash cams I've seen have been very much more cash, so see how it goes. I'm not expecting too much for £13 ! Thanks for letting me know  :y

That one is very similar to my cheapo car cam ( £13 too).  Here's some vid from mine

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=116805.msg1477937#msg1477937 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=116805.msg1477937#msg1477937)

They fit quite well above the rear view mirror facing forwards if you custom make a mount with a magnet or velcro.  The advantages are the price and that they are fully auto, just power up and they begin recording and they loop on a micro sd card (just over 3 hours on a 16GB)

The drawbacks are
1) not very good at night - the 'IR leds' are useless and not IR,
2) not very wide angle - I added a cheap chinese wide angle adapter designed for iphones,
3) not very robust (don't wire directly to 12V like I stupidly did without thinking - it needs to go through the cigarette plug transformer).
4) the quality is not good enough to record a numberplate unless you are inches away from it.  Still you can read it out aloud and the audio will record that.

On sd cards I just use the cheapest, they don't seem to need a fast card.  About £8 for 16GB.
