Title: The STOR scandal
Post by: Nickbat on 07 July 2013, 23:40:56
Read this:

It's all about the diesel answer to our future energy shortages...

..and, oh yes, it will cost us a fortune.  >:(

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/10163570/Our-lights-will-stay-on-but-it-will-cost-us-a-fortune.html (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/10163570/Our-lights-will-stay-on-but-it-will-cost-us-a-fortune.html)

Hopefully, the excellent MikeD will come on here and give his take on the story. :y

Apologies in advance to anyone who thinks this is a whingeing thread.

I deal with reality – even if it's not fun. ;)

Also as these 'stand by' generators are used more and more to plug the gap in our energy supplies, so the demand for diesel will increase and of course so will the price!  ::)

Sounds like all you urbanites had better get used to the thrum of heavy diesels chugging away in the background!!  :-\

A few years ago, we had a major feed problem to our entire street. After 18 hours of no electricity, their solution until they could repair it was a big diesel generator in the road. Fortunately, it was outside about 10 houses up, so it didn't disturb us.

This is total madness. If the Government want a top energy consultant at £2,000 a day for a more efficient solution, then I'm available. :) Just keep the coal fired stations open, doh, I've done myself out of a job.  :-[ :o :o :o

The final section of that article pretty much sums up everything printed quite succinctly  ::)

The initial issue is not the predicted cost of 'Back up' energy, but rather the total wastage from investing in expensive and inefficient wind farms, which only work if it's windy (but not too windy or they catch fire...)

What time is the penultimate bus out of here? I suspect that the last bus will be cancelled :-\
