Title: Sky+
Post by: Elite Pete on 20 May 2008, 12:16:54
We have basic sky box and subscription at the moment but wifey wants Sky+. Can I just buy the box and connect it up and if I can do that can I buy the HD box and just connect it or do I have to subscribe to more mindless pap?

TIA :y

There is no separate subscription for sky+ anymore...

It is free as long as you subscribe to something.

Think its another tenner a month for HD feed though :(

Normally needs a dual LNB to support the parralel view/recording of another channel......so if you dont have one then you would need that upgrading to.

Easy really it is basically a twin tuner PVR and all twin tuner DVB-S receivers need two independant LNB connections

So thats what the £30 set up fee is then.

Yep. So they can send their ham fisted muppets around to butcher your house some more. >:(

I wonder where they'd route my second LNB feed? I'm guessing it won't be the same route as the current feed - up the cavity from a flush mounted socket in the lounge, across the loft in conduit and out through the gable end just by the dish.  ::) I already know they "don't do lofts". They told me that at the last house.

Nope, it'd be 8mm diameter cable through a 15mm diameter hole straight through the lounge wall, round 3 sides of the house making sure all the nails go through the damp course 'cos it's easier than hammering them into mortar, then straight (well, not straight) up the side wall to the dish.

Don't think I'll bother. ;)

I got my sky+ fitted last week.

Chap was quick, pleasant, left no mess, no damage to house, and it didn't cost me anything!

I thought it was a dream, but the box is still here!

Hmm

Our aerial is a large wideband thingy with radio aerial on same mast. Cables are fed through the loft and down the side of the house.

Our neighbours had a Sky box installed, threw the cable over the roof, not through the loft :o, it looks messy!

Oh, I would. Only Mrs. KW watches the shite programs anyway though.

I do need to put an amateur radio antenna up though. Been living at pretty much the highest point in Hampshire for 3 years and haven't pulled my finger out yet.  ::)

Kevin

Sue watches some odd stuff, most of it the equivalent of wall paper.

I like documentries and SF, there are still a few decent documentries on but SF is a little limited - Doctor Who and Heroes currently, there are other SF shows I know, but they are not on TV.

Best TV programme I can think of though is Top Gear.
