Afternoon fellas, hope you're well.
I fitted my mates new PAS pump but i'm now stuck with his old one. And being the inquisitive chap I am I thought i'd take it apart :)

Those little rectangle pieces of metal are the bearings that fell straight out of the bearing holder (??) that sits next to it in the photo. if I can get this sucker going (my mate kindly said I can refit on his car to test it out) then I'll have learned some stuff and perhaps make some dosh on a resell :):):)
so.
shall I grease these up and refit? theres no obvious signs of damage or wear? im thinking, grease, refit and test. what say you? :)
ps this is the pas pump off a 2004 Hyundai coupe 2L SE

Aha! thanks mate. I assumed they were bearings..... so if the bearings have gone where do I find them?
ps, this failed bearing/s was the diagnosis of a mechanic, not just me guessing :y
-
Not much goes wrong on the PAS pumps, its normaly a seal or a bit of crudd on the pressure control line.
The metal parts form part of the impeller assembly which actualy pumps the fluid.
That looks like a Saginaw pump to me

What were the symptoms
-
it was screeching when you got to either full lock. it was physically stopping the belt and its that rubbing that was causing it
-
And he diagnosed bearings pmsl......oh dear
Pressure relief valve I would say
-
thanks mark. I was very careful not to advise as I didn't know what the problem was. so this is what he was told :y
is the PRV on the rack itself? :)
-
Its normaly on the pump and is often under one of the bolts that is on the side of the pump body
-
Thanks mark. theres a big bolt that has two washers, has a hole in it and fits one of the hoses to the pump.... is this it?
-
Quite possibly, yes
-
is it usual that theyre simply blocked with goo?
-
The vanesd wear down=not so good as a pump then :-\

Never seen it happen on a modern system to be honest and there are not signs of scratching or witness marks on the rotor outer in the pic.
Every time I have stripped one its been gunk in the system be it in the pressure relief valve or the pressure regulating part.
