Hopefully somebody can help.
This one is hard to explain but for example I went onto crucial.com to check my computer system and when I click on the download screen to get the program working I get the following:
" Internet Explorer cannot download ........................."
"internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The request site is either unavaible or cannot be found."
This happens on a lot of different sites.
Iam running a dell desktop ie 8 on a xp system if this makes any difference.
All the sites that dont work on my desktop work on my laptop.
Any ideas on how to fix this.

Try using mozilla firefox .. free download... if they work then its simply the way IE has been set up.
Hate IE anyway .. :)

I to have plenty of issues with IE on my works laptop but no issues at home on a desktop PC. I now tend to use firefox at work, much easier.

Windows and Service Packs up to date, might be worth running a deep Malwarebytes scan in safe mode, there are some nasty Virus's about that will try and stop Anti Virus Upgrade and or Win Updates end up resulting in all downloads to fail.

presumably you have addressed the usual suspects such as deleting all the crap via Internet Options?

Yes do this all the time. I was thinking its more to do with a security issue
-
had similar problems so now use Chrome or the one mentioned above ...especially after hubby's work techy experts took all IE off works stuff as it was causing too many issues (friend experts I mean who are old enough to trust they know what they're doing , not the 17 year olds who think they do ;) )
technophobe here ...so haven't got a clue what the probs were about but the thingabobs I use wern't working and they so now !!!

If I use firefox how if any will this change things.
-
sorry haven't a clue but it did ....
summat about conflicts rings a bell ....depends on the type of windows as well ...hubby has ours on XP as he hated 7 let alone whatever the new one is that people are hating even more?

XP and firefox seem to sit well together ,I changed from IE when was having no end of issues ,but firefox is great ,just works !!

Either reinstall/update IE (PITA), or download and install Firefox :y
-
May be your AV suite blocking the Crucial ActiveX.
Both Firefox and esp Chrome have more bugs that the CIA, so if you do use these, ensure that you update regularly (at least weekly). IE is generally robust nowadays, but prone to misbehaving plugins.
-
If I install firefox what av do I use. On IE I am using there MSS
-
Keep with your existing av if you're happy with it :y
No need to change to run Firefox

I've been using FireFox for years and seldom have any issues with it.
Install the AdBlock+ plugin for it, makes browsing the web a MUCH better and faster experience. :y
