Title: Fracking tax incentives
Post by: Varche on 20 July 2013, 13:29:21
Most advantageous in the world, for UK explorers.

Selling the family silver OR incentivising exploration and thus production where it might not have been economic? Will it overall be beneficial to the tax payer.?

(Stage left- sound of Rods" footsteps !)

In a word yes they are sensible, we need to have the investment made in gas extraction as this is one of the areas that MAY stop the UK's total economic meltdown. The taxes will go up as the company get a return on their investment in much the same way as North Sea investment was incentivised in the same way. The top rate of tax will eventually reach 62%, just like it has with bigger North Sea gas fields.

Fracking is a much more intensive and expensive way of extracting gas compared with traditional gas fields and the EROEI (Energy Return of Energy Invested) ratio lower.

Our economy has hardly grown since 2007, real wages are falling, the EU high cost energy policy is a major part of this. We need to have cheaper forms of energy otherwise we have to accept that the country and are wealth are in terminal decline with no end to this. This will have enormous implications for UK society as we watch Asia and US as the places to be, not poor bankrupt Europe.
