Pattern cats sound truly awful, the really are very, very bad. You want to look at putting a second hand genuine cat on there, that would make a vast difference.
Who was the exhaust from? Many places like KwikShit sell nasty thin stuff.
You want a system with at least double walled centre sections, like Eternal or ETS off eBay. Polish made, but good stuff :y

yes I got one from Germany off ebay its quite sturdy good welds ,old cat was blocked and hadn't much more in it as rust was eating it away lol, but not as sluggish as it was can say for that, but just sounds throaty, or should I moan lol, Ree.

I changed my downpipe and cat a couple of weeks ago, for after market items, due to the flexi joint giving out. Like you, I thought it was leaking from the sound of it, but could not find any blows from anything. I have got used to the sound of it now, and as long as it goes through the MOT, I will be happy.
I kept the originals, and will hopefully weld a new joint in.

Hi All,
Talked to garage today... I think that I might go for a de-cat!! and just have a straight pipe welded in.
Im gonna cut the cat out of the new front pipe, and weld in a straight.
I shall take pics of before and after and upload them to the forum, to see what you think. Bear with me, Im useless with the DropBox thingy!!! :-[
If this is not a success, then I shall get an original cat to weld in.
Is it the case that if you take the cat out of line you get more horse power?
And would there be a difference in fuel consumption.
I'm interested in hearing your comments. :)

Hi,
That was what we were discussing, I've heard that the engine management light will be on, and as stated in an earlier post, the MOT man :y

My 2.2 is on its 3rd flexi :o
Why did the 2.2 get a flexi hose? :-\
A transverse/ wrong wheel drive engine tips backwards & forwards in normal driving so it needs something to prevent the whole exhaust system whipping up and down.
The longitudinal engine in a rear wheel drive 2.2 Omega should be able to twist the (rubber mounted) exhaust without it coming to any harm (the V6s do). I wonder if anyone has tried replacing the flexi hose with a solid pipe?

Sounds very familiar - sure this op has posted this a short while ago, and was given advice. Why keep posting the same? ??? ???

There does appear to be considerable movement, so much so in that when FatherT's Flexi was done it was just a few mm longer. It caused the first bend in the exhaust, to come a tad closer to heat shield. Under engine load, say hill at low RPM where the engine labored, it would hit the heat shield and make nasty tapping sound. But fine under normal driving.
My original flexi lasted around 100k miles, second flexi lasted 60k, sourced from Camskill. This let go in spectacular style, over a speed bump at normal speed and BANG. Wondered what the fluck had happened, then noticed it blew big style.
Cheapo eBay one welded in this time, another 60k maybe? Would take the car to 220k miles. Could well be its last :'(
On the upside, I remember struggling to take exhaust manifold off first time around, just starting car DIY work. Easily whipped it off this time, just need to learn to weld, oh and get a plasma cutter ::)

seems to be the way had my manifold welded as crack was found fix this before the refit. :y

So can anyone enlighten me as to what size flexi pipe is required for a 2.2 petrol?
Thx

ive been looking for a new exaust, the one on ours is splitting all along the top.. rusting away haha

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=e7ff181cc2c7446bbb769ba1a379ea32&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D251165535785%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AGB%3A1123
at 79 quid. (plus post). any good ? anyone used one of these ? its cheap as chips, but says that its double skinned etc...
-
If its as pictured and described, should be ok. Double walled centre sections are key to keeping the noise down :y
-
who was it that bought one recently ? with the big "P" on it? i cant find the thread ?
itīd be interesting to hear what its like now that its fitted and being used etc ?

Was it Terbert?
