Title: Wanted - MV6 Wheel
Post by: Rog on 30 July 2013, 20:49:56
I had a puncture recently and had to finish my journey on the speed restricted steel spare. A real pain.

I want an alloy as a spare, so I only need one, not a set.

The pic below is one of the others. It's 17".

I'm happy to collect if not too far. No rush

NB. the full size 17 with tyre will not fit in the standard spare wheel location.  :'(

Ah . . . . . . . bit of a problem then   :-[

I really wonder sometimes about the thought processes of people who design things.  :o

I think it fitted the wheel sizes fitted to the car when it was designed, don't think they could make it wider in the later cars because of the position of the exhaust.

...... isn't the B's based on the A's floorpan?

True, but then the original Elite ran 15" Alloys which I guess was no bigger than the A's wheels - Sure GSi's only ran 15" as well.

Guessing the LC had a spacesaver!

OP has an estate ::) 17" fits the spare wheel well, but the lid will sit a touch proud :y

Have full size spare on mine, no issues at all, the difference in level is barely noticeable

I could live with that  :y and I would be prepared to take a chance. I've got a couple of trips abroad coming up. I know it;s a bit pessimistic but If I got another puncture I'd much rather just change a wheel rather than also having to find in Tyre place in German  :-\

So, now I want one again  :)

Don't worry if you can't find a 'Schnellwechsler' in Germany Rog, just remember this phrase:
'Mine Auto is Kaputt, wo ist der Bahnhof?' Auch, wie viel gibst du mir dafür Omega bitte' ;D ;)

May be a silly question, but can you get bi-directional tyres in 235/45x17 size?  If not, surely you can't use a full size wheel as a spare, because it could only ever go on one side of the car.   :-\

Never thought about that . . . . . . .   :-\

Oh dear. It all seem such a simple thing to do   :(

Maybe I should change all tyres to run-flats  ::) Though I'm sure that someone will tell me that it's not possible   ;)

Yes, you can get non symetrical tyres in that size.

Easier to just leave the original spare in the boot and repair & refit the flat tyre.  :y

Buy the cheapest bi directional tyre you can find, and treat it as a spare :y

Get a puncture/spare with cheap tyre goes on the car/get puncture fixed or replaced with identical tyre/refit to car/spare back in boot :y

But at least with a full size spare you're not limited to 50 ::)

So, an extreme solution.

Get 5 smaller wheels, fit them all with bi-directional tyres ? With the advantage of a nicer ride on 16's

Hmmmm, I've got 4 expensive boots on at present, to maybe when they've worn a bit  :(

Must be an imaginary 235/45/17 spare in my spare wheel well then :-X

And in mine.
Worrying about a directional tyre as a spare is a step too far. It's much better than no spare or one of a different size/spacesaver.

Indeed, but tyres seem to be a very personal subject for some folk ::)
