Did BMW ever make a bigger (stroked or bore) version of the 2.5 diesel engine fitted to the earlier Omegas? One that would be a straight swap.
If so why hasn't anyone fitted one?
On the same subject. Was the 2.5Dti engine (fitted to later continental Omegas) ever fitted to any production none Omega UK cars?

3.0 and 3.5 (might be twin turbo 3.0) straight 6, possibly 4.0 v8 :-\
To answer your second question, if yes, try Landrover/Range Rover :y

Yes, I happened to see a 3.0 BM oil burner being worked on a while back and it looked very similar to the 2.5, couldn't say whether it had twin turbo's or not but I would say it looked like it would be a straight swap.... I guess as long as you had a manual box everything would be hunky dory and just a little bit faster!!!

Straight swap 'physically' is one thing, getting the electronics to marry is another. :-\
Also, I believe all the more substantial BMW's used the ZF auto transmission, not the Mickey one in the Omega. (And trust me, 5 is better than 4) ;D

ive been asking around and to my knowledge no one has done it yet. If the 3 ltr bmw block was externally the same as the 2.5 would it not be just the case of swapping over bolt ons and a map to make the most of it? I know on the 2.5 v6 calibra this can be done using the 3 ltr and 3.2 of the omega

I'm pretty sure that the current 325d/330d/335d are all 3.0 litre and that the 740d is a 3.0 as well - "marketing designations" ::)

Fair comment - but are those models actually sold in the UK?

There's one E38 7series on german ebay :-\

All current 6 cylinder BMW diesels are 3.0's be it a 740d, 535d, or an xDrive35d/40d. Most of the 25d's are now 4 cylinder twin turbo units. Previous 740/745d's in the E38 and E65 were never available here. There's a 184 BHP version of the 3.0 Diesel from 1998 that has a fair few similarities.
