Post by: Webby the Bear on 02 August 2013, 21:20:30
Hi guys,

Sorry to be a pain as I know this is a question I should know the answer to but a little while ago someone posted up a website where you can put your reg number in and pick a kit.

Mine's due end of August and having a get together with the N.O.O.F branch at symes's and need to get my kit.

could someone post a link? :)

cheers

ps, im not going to replace water pump.... so am I right in thinking that I need belt, tensioner, backing plate and two idlers and that's it? :)

Most well known kits are identical to genuine GM and much cheaper.

Look for SKF, Gates or Contitech kits and try all the usual suspects for the best price. :y

Living in Northamptonshire and being a member of OOF makes you an automatic member of NOOF. I'll see if we've got any car stickers left  ;D ;D ;D

ok, quick question....

this is one I've found.....

http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/details/VAUXHALL/OMEGA/2.5/2000/__/54/CT990K1/timing-belt-kit/

completely confused by the description.... 1.) why does it list timing bekt x 1 3 times  :-\ amd 2.) it only mentions 1 idler (guide pulley). thought there should be 2  :-\

2 idlers plus the tensioner. :y

It is the bearings in the idlers that fail first, so these must be replaced.

Stick to one of the brands I mentioned and the kit will be complete.

This is what you should have :

2 idlers
tensioner
backplate
belt
spacer for the lower idler
mounting bolts

thanks guys. ill prob give buypartsby a call to clarify as don't want to order and then have one missing idler  ::)

steve, I think the consensus was that back in the day when pumps were in the £20 bracket it made sense. I think theyre stupid price now though. and as its not cam belt driven im not too worried  :)

IMHO, it's not worth replacing the water pump on a V6. They have been of poor quality recently, so the one that's in it will probably be better.

The Contitech kits from Buypartsby are fine. I have them on both my Omegas. (Note to self, Bullet is way overdue  :-[).

Webby, I know in the past you have used my camlock kit.  I just wanted to say, in case it wasn't obvious, this isn't available at the moment, due to the incident with the garage. Being ali, not a hope in hell of it having survived the heat.

Hi guys,

I get paid tomorrow so going to order my belt from buy parts by.

This is the one I want at what seems to be a good price. but it doesn't say whether its a gates or contitech. however the part number starts with CT... does that indicate its a contitech?
(http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee402/webbybear1/cambeltbuy_zps5f71a133.png) (http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/webbybear1/media/cambeltbuy_zps5f71a133.png.html)
also going to get a new aux belt. mine has air con..... are there different sizes for with / without AC?
Title: Re: Cambelt kit. Where do you buy them?
Post by: chrisgixer on 20 August 2013, 08:40:24
There's a conti tech  water mark on the belt map.

Ac is an extra pulley on the aux run, so non ac will be considerably shorter.

Nope.  If you do find other issues during stripdown, these can easily be replaced after the event :)

Not doing the water pump while the front end is all stripped?

Some grease to re-grease the aux belt tensioner pulley bearings.

no mate. too expensive and mines not broken. if it breaks down shortly after the strip downs easy so not a prob.

thanks for the reminder re the grease!  :y
