Kinda off the wall a bit but - anyone got first hand experience of prepping and cooking fresh pigs ears for dogs and getting them as crispy as you do in pet shops?
Looks like they need the cartiledge removing first, brought to the boil, drained to get rid of dirt and such then brought back to the boil. Then drain and slow roast for 3/4 hours and cooling.
Anyone any experience of such?
Ta...... :)

If so, don't turn your back on them. :o

No. Just buy them ready (for the dog) to eat! :y
It kinda makes me think of the tales that the mother-in-law tells of her mum cooking tripe at home & stinking 'the stair' out with the stuff!!

If you love your sense of smell for the love of God never give your Dog pig's ears. I've seen walls decay in front of my eyes from the related air biscuit caused by Pig ear consumption

My sister only feeds her alsatian raw meat. Apparently it's better for their digestion and also stops the mutt from smelling so much. :y

Well its only bacon :P Deep fry i would think to get them ears nice and crispy :-\ Rottweilers really stink after they have digested them .. the fumes :o

My lab really likes them and gets them as a treat. And, luckily, no after effect smells either. I do grudge paying the pet shop price for them and I have managed to arrange a regular supply from a local pig farmer who simply treats them as waste and bins lots each week. All I need now is a means to cook them.
Looks like bring to the boil from cold water, skim off any crudd that appears, then blanche into cold water. Pat dry then 3 hours in a cool oven (100 c or so) or until desired crispyness.
Time to experiment! :)

I bought Holly a couple plus some doggie sausages from the market in Bridport when i was down there a couple of weeks ago on hols.......couple of squid.....she enjoyed them :)
Never tried cooking them from raw Broocie, but i would have thought a med oven for a few hours would suffice.....the temp should melt any fat/tissue and crisp them up.....plus the temp will sterilise them.....and when has a dog ever worried about a bit of grit ;D
Bit like my attitude to the bbq......give the griddle a quick scrape with a wire brush to get off any previous bit of food.....then turn on high and close the lid for 10mins....that should kill any germs with the heat and ive never poisoned anyone yet ;)
