Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 05 August 2013, 15:32:44
......how many Brittish Leyland cars will you admit to owning?

I've owned three. :'(

A 1972 Triumph 1500 with FWD

A 1976 Triumph 2500S.....the one with the Stag wheels

A 1981 Austin Princess 1700......Given to me by my FIL.

All three cars were uniformly shite. :-[

Rare as rocking horse droppings, and, if you can find one, cost in the £20,000- £40,000 price range.

I had a Marina Coupe 1800 TC in a fetching mustard colour with thick black go-faster stripes!  8) I think it was circa 1980.  :-\

I also had a '96 Rover 218 diesel (Non turbo) which chugged about happily on veg oil, until I accidentally shorted the electrics while changing the glowplug relay.  :-[

Mines a TR4A - had quite a few TRs over the years as I've always had a thing for them.  Never got round to getting a TR5 PI, but did run a '69 TR6 PI for a few years.

Triumph Acclaim (Honda engined) - not bad for what it was
Metro - ditto, had a certain thrashability about it
Rover 216 (Honda engined) - a blast, bloody quick, and handled like a dream
Rover 25 - lovely car, one of the best handling FWD cars I've ever driven (on Pirelli tyres, shite on GYs)

Works vehicles include:
Ital - shite. In fact words cannot emphasise how bad it was
Maestros (several) - OKish, all trashed to within an inch of their lives ::)

And all the time that people were slagging off these cars, not realising that the same blokes were building Rolls Royce body shells.  ;) ;D
