Title: fuel filter on 2.2 diesel

hi can any one tell me what the eletrical plug does on my fuel filter 2.2tdi  i also have one fitted on my wifes pug 406 2.0 diesel . any ideas folks. its a 2052 plate the pug is a 2003 plate cheers guys  :-[

A heater I would imagine  :-\
